Update!

The Szajol-Tiszatenyő section, which is part of the Budapest-Romania main international line, has been upgraded. Now there is new train controlling system installed and the line allows 160km/h.

Pilis station and the tracks in its vicinity have also undergone major upgrade. It now has similar technical parameters as the line mentioned above. The station is part of the above mentioned international mainline.

Hungary: BKV to stage a strike before Christmas

Trade unions of Budapest public transport company (BKV) will organize a strike before Christmas, if the Hungarian government does not reach an agreement with the mayor of Budapest regarding the company’s financial situation.

This year BKV had HUF 24 billion of debt, and in 2010 this figure will probably rise to HUF 26 billion, the local media report.

BKV operates trams, buses, metro, suburban railways and trolleybuses in Hungary’s capital city.

Hungary: Railways to save HUF 5 billion on electricity procurement next year

Hungarian Railways MAV will probably save over HUF 5 billion on electricity procurement in 2010. In November, state-owned company approved the winning offers of Magyar Áramszolgáltató and E.ON Energiaszolgáltató for power supply next year.

MAV will spend HUF 21 billion for electricity next year, instead of HUF 26 billion, which it paid in 2009. The company been purchasing electricity on the deregulated market since 2005.
