site works are underway for a development called Sky on Metro. Mainly offices it is about 4levels on the corner of Metro Pde and Central Link near Mawson Lakes Railway Station/bus interchange.

At first i thought it looked good but then i saw the floor plans. All of the ground floor and part of the 1st floor is carparking, the whole street frontage is just a solid wall with no street interaction, which is fucked because it's on a corner.

I'm still waiting for a development in Mawson Lakes that is taller than 5 levels, probably wont happen until they close Parafield tho.

looks like i got my wish, a $10m, 7 level apartment block for Mawson lakes was being shown in the Northen Messenger and it will be located on the corner of Metro pde and Capital st. The developer expects completion to be around 2011.

it will also be the tallest building in the northern suburbs when completed.

I don't think so there's an 8 level building in Tea Tree Gully.

I worry a bit about this, since I live literally a minute from this building.There has been talk of this area becoming a slum town. What do you think?

Also, what is the story with the proposal to turn the salt pans into a marina suburb? I think that is a bad idea personally.

"Slum town" is a fear campaign trotted out by Nimbys. They see high-rises on CSI full of poor people and drug dealers and assume that it's the high-rises that caused it.

When people drive past and see mostly dust and dirt with concrete slabs being stuck out and no trees, plants or any vegetation, they get the impression that its going to be a dustbowl slummy wasteland (they did with Golden Grove). What they forget is that vegetation is often added after construction.

That is why I recon it will turn out to be a 2000's and 2010's version of Golden Grove. People were scared of Golden Grove developing as to the west they had low socio-economic areas and to the east they had the middle-class. People were scared that it would become a lower than average-classed area. But when it was finished, it turned out such a success that it got the name "the worlds best address" in 1999.

I agree. It's been fixed up alot, the unemployment rate is decreasing and Tony Zappia has helped the youth and community a lot by constructing skate parks, playgrounds and ponds in what was low socio economic places such as Pooraka
