Downtown Miami (surprisingly good!)

When people think of Miami, often the first thing that springs to mind are images of Miami Beach, i.e. beaches, scantily clad women, bars, clubs, art deco buildings and palm trees.

I want to show you Miami itself though - Downtown Miami. Downtown Miami often gets a bad press, but much of it is actually very interesting, although very different from the "touristy" areas of Miami Beach.

It was a beautiful day here, so I decided to get out there and take some photos of Downtown Miami and the Bayside area.

downtown miami seems more business-oriented than social. it amazes me how much some shots can look JUST like new york city. only sunny and warm and beautiful.

Great photos! Downtown Miami is definitely growing, and with all the new towers built and under construction have given it greater density and height. Downtown Miami definitely is a lot more business-oriented in the day, but at night is also very social with the Performing Arts Center, Bayside, American Airlines Arena, theaters, Brickell (lots of expensive restaurants and bars), and Park West (with many nightclubs).

It's the heart of Miami, and it's definitely taken on many roles; business, residential and social. It's a little bit of everything.

Great photothread, but I think some people have yet to discover our Urban Showcase for original photographs, which is where this thread should be posted. I will move it there now.

Actually I'd not like to live in US but recently I'm thinking about your country all the time and I'd like to visit Miami[US generally] some day... I think that America is... magical? Maybe that's why it's so far from Poland

central Miami always looks deserted. It's a shame for it looks very good.

Who the hell eats at Bubba Gump's? A fake premise for a business from a movie that is fiction. And people actually eat there. America at its worst. I hate that movie Forrest Gump. How low can corporate America go? The movie was a squirrely attempt to make baby boomers feel good about all the damage they've done to this poor country. The soundtrack says it all. Oooh lets relive the 60's ooooh how cool. “Come on people now, smile on your brother. Everybody get together try to love one another right now.“ I could just puke. Stupid ass movie for baby boomers to show their grandkids hoping their grandkids will continue the damage.

I like downtown Miami. There are people but remember it's hot here the way it gets cold up north. People like their air conditioning. Florida is not a state that understands the value of pedestrian planning. Miami and South Beach are the exceptions. If you want to see people go the the beach. There are always people on the beach and yes they are walking.
