Those two photos are quite brilliant. Its hard to believe that the Cuillin are only about 1000m, they look double or triple that height in those two photos. I was up on Skye recently and have come to the opinion that this range is certainly the most spectacular in Scotland - they are so dark and brooding, like the mountains of Mordor. I'm hoping to go with a few mates to nail the ridge next Spring, although we'll not be doing the 'Inn Pinn'.

^ Yes I would though I'm more attracted to the higher and wilder and Scottish ranges. Ironically English mountains are also less accessible to a public transport dependent Londoner like me than the Scottish mountains. The same goes for Snowdonia. I've cancelled a couple of trips there this summer owing to car availability not matching up with my free time.
By the way if you aren't talking about Cumbrian fells then where else would I find a mountain in England? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought they were all in the Lake District? ...and the Lakeland fells are all in Cumbria??

yeah it's a ball-ache getting to Scafell Pike from anywhere... not just London. The eastern side is much easier to get to, but less wild.

It's a vast area between the Eden valley in Cumbria and Northumberland and has peaks rising to well above 800m - the highest being cross fell at 893m. image hosted on flickr ![]() There are many areas of fells in the England outside the lake district - The Cheviots, Mallerstang, Howgill, the Yorkshire dales. Despite not being as high as the lakeland fells they are definately more wild. I'll scout more pics. |

@El Greco
Yes I do but they're not worth posting. I'd rather put really impressive and beautiful photos on this thread. I have a tiny camera and I mainly use it to take photos recording myself at the summit. I prefer to just remember the views as my photos/camera never really capture them in any case. @Kids I'm not so excited by the Pennines. They're not high or dramatic enough. I can get pretty rolling hills in leafy Surrey (I spent the weekend driving my girlfriend around gorgeous country roads in the Downs) and if I want the wild mountainous scenery then the Scottish Highlands are in their own league in Britain. The Lakes is perhaps the only place in England that could really be described as "mountainous" but even that's second best to Scotland. I drove through some fantastic wild moorland scenery in Northumberland once, but I think it's too bleak and featureless to make for an exciting walk. I prefer to just drive through. Wow El_Greco I've never seen that first shot before - it's utterly stunning. As is Glen Etive; was up there last year whilst visiting family in Glencoe - what an unbelievably beautiful and tranquil place.
I need to get up there more often, really... I'm only 2 and a half hours away, after all...
