New Rolfe Judd render looks good, I'm very interested to see this once completed ![]() Quote:
But still, the Croydon skyline should look amazing if all these projects come to fruition. |

Do you think these 'scrapers will have shops/restaurants/life at street level? The great thing about 'scrapers in the US/China/HK is that they have life on the 1st(ground) floor. In my experience we don't often have this (yet) in the UK.

Some areas of Croydon are so dull because of this. Areas of Croydon like Dingwall road with nothing but 60s office blocks are dead after 6pm. Unfortunately I feel planners have failed to learn these lessons.

I have to say it looks exactly the same as another completed building in Hong Kong.

Quite an interesting report on Croydon by Jones Lang LaSalle & the various potential developments. Not able to link it but did manage to lift this pic of current buildings in Croydon. Its on their website.
![]() Between 17 & 19 is the 40+ Berkley Wellesley Square development 12 & 14 are Lunar & Apollo House - The site of Hamilton development being worked up. To the rIght of 12 is the site for the proposed Whitgift tower. 2-4 is the site of the Menta MAKE scheme. The patch of land East Croydon is the site of the disputed Croydon Gateway. The proposed 36 floor Dingwall Rd tower is roughly between 9 & 10. The Croydon Vocational Tower is roughly around 20. You can see Altitude 25 U/C just above 8. 29 was the site of the abandoned Suffolk house 30+storey tower. Last edited by london lad; March 31st, 2008 at 10:36 PM. |

With a bit more digging I also found this from Geddes Architects who have come up with a masterplan for the Whitgift centre. It says it was drawn up in 2007 so no idea if this will have any resemblance to whatever is finally submitted for planning for the Whitgift redevelopment.

Great find londonlad, especially that skyline shot. The Whitgift tower is ~250m iirc.
Have done a quick massing model of the proposed towers shown in this thread. Maybe someone handy with photoshop can do a decent render. Before and after.... ![]() ![]() Annotated...

I like the way the tallest towers taper upwards.

Good work Shaun. I was hoping someone would add the proposals to the pic.
That would be a rather impressive town centre IF these schemes get built. |

Why can't architects design buildings like this? All they can design is some odd building with some random colours(i.e. red) on the windows, which doesn't even look modern. |

The above impression is also showing a traffic-calmed tree-lined Wellesley Road! Tree lined would be nice but loosing lanes is not a good idea IMHO, traffic in the surrounding area would only get worse.
I popped out of my office on Good Friday and got this shot from the top of the Dingwall Road car park. My impression of Croydon as it is now... image hosted on flickr

I agree getting rid of lanes would be disasterous. Though some trees would be nice.
And your pic couldn't have represented Croydon any worse! It's showing the empty plot of where the Stanhope/Arrowcroft scheme will be build... and it's in b&w! Makes it look like an urban wasteland... |
