#SWP: Victoria Square Redevelopment (Stage One)
Victoria SQ will look so much better once the lighting on the hilton changes color, which should happen soon. It will also look fantastic with the tram extension, City Central complex, Spire, and the SA water house building .

I was walking through It recently and I thought it was definetly up to par with most cities world wide, even better. An upgrade is welcome though as it will further enhance it.

I think it would be interesting to hear since I personally cant find many flaws that would require any urgent upgrades. As far as I saw, the paving was up to scratch and the fountain and grasses were well maintained.

Build a tunnel under vic square to join grote and wakefield streets and then return the current road into a park and make it a proper looking square such as hyde park in sydney with large morton bay fig trees and some good street art. Bear in mind that the tram extension will go around the square when it is completed!!! Just my opinion!!

Tunnels and underpasses are just bad ideas, but so is the 'cut through road'.... Any chance of it becoming a 'roundabout' with traffic lights installed? Whihc is what they should do at Britannia.

There is nothing wrong with britannia!! (except a resurfacing that is desperately needed) Adelaide drivers should just learn how to drive, I think we have the easiest to follow street network in the world, so one roundabout with more then 4 entrances/exits and everybody freaks out!!

We dont exactly have the money to fund such a project, it would probably require demolition of the SGIC and Hilton Hotel buildings, not to mention the St Xaviers Cathedral and the other building on the eastside, plus all the other smaller buildings behind it... the road simply isnt wide enough to accomodate for a 2 lane tunnel each way plus suffiecient turning lanes.

The tunnel can start 2m in from the curb of each intersection which eliminates the need for turning lanes.

turning lanes are essential, especially to the city's peak hour traffic flow.
i apologise, but i made a mistake. all roads in the sqaure are 4 lanes. So according to what I can see on google earth, a two lane tunnel (each way) plus 2 turning lanes on each side, is enough room. |

If it couldnt be done, without demolishing the building you stated, then it wouldnt have been proposed because it would be a waste of time. |
