You can tell that video is pretty recent because Met2 has the glass up on it at the end of the video.

Dr. Paul George is incredible, his passion is very contagious. Nice blog post she had going there, except that she didn't go anywhere. There is a little ramp next to the Padilla statue and if you take that it goes alongside the MadSummer on a new wooden dock.

I'm not sure why the fence blocking the walkway isn't already down. It is complete, there is just one single chainlink fence and a pad lock blocking it. It is finished at Epic, it is finished under the bridge, and it is finished at the Hyatt. The greenway is complete through the next four properties, but not under the Miami Ave bridge yet. The dead Cima site will be a temporary challenge too. Mint still has some construction going on, but the riverwalk will be very nice there in a couple of months.

They probably want to prevent vandalism and/or homelessness from happening there.

They should build like a Hard Rock Casino/Hotel with nightclubs and all just like in Broward on the empty Cima site along the river. Wouldn't that be like the ultimate hangout, party and night spot for downtowners? It would obviously have to be on a smaller scale since not as much land, but just a thought.

Lots of challenges with that idea. The most obvious is that the land is almost 1.8 acres and the Hard Rock is 86 acres. The lagoon at Hard Rock it two times the size of the Cima land. Another is...well, there are others.
There is a great opportunity for riverfront entertainment redevelopment up the river a bit. When the time is right, it will get done.

A few pics from last weekend....

The Miami River Greenway view from Brickell Bridge. That is MadSummer tied up East of Epic.

This one from the East of Epic...MadSummer again, and skate border shredding on the 6-digit expensive Padilla sculpture...how rad.

To the right are a couple of sculpters, and the entry to Il Gambiano. Great to know that you can walk along the river walk and up the ramp right into the restaurant.

Just around the corner, and on more on the bay than the riverwalk are the statues and monuments that honor people that make our city great.

Again, more like the baywalk...but it is all connected...it's a shot of the Carnival Ship turning in the basin and heading out.

I really hope that epic completes the other part of the river walk. Also, I tried to come from the west, and the riverwalk is gated from there. Somebody needs to tell the city to unlock the gate so that epic is connected with the completed parts of the riverwalk to the west (convention center and more).

If epic finishes the other part, then there will be a continous walk from bayside to almost ivy.

Yeah...I realized what you are talking about...the 50' setback part isn't done yet, but there is a brand new shiney wooden dock open to the public and a new seawall. I walk on it all the time, and will do it again in about 2 hours. I'll try to grab the camera.
The river walk is connected from Miami Avenue to Museum Park with exception of that one chainlink fence.

I have yet to walk it, but look forward to doing so soon. Seems like a nice walk to take with a lady. From what I see though it seems kind of narrow at some points. Do you think that being so narrow might prevent it from becoming a popular walk for people other than those that live right next to it?

So far, the only narrow spot is the walk where the Mad Summer is docked. It is simply a dock on the outside of the seawall. A very nice touch by Ugo Columbo.
Just about every other part has a large setback and is very wide...at least 3 stories wide to give perspective.
Pictures just won't do it justice. The real way to understand it and enjoy it is by walking it.
There was a grand opening party tonight for the restaurant Area 31 at Epic. Very nice ambiance and good food. AND a coat check room...I haven't seen that since the last time I was out of town.

The chainlink fence is still there and locked, Quantum. What are you waiting for!!!!

I emailed the river authority about the fence. I thought maybe they know who to contact. Does anybody know who I need to contact besides them?

That chain sucks, it really cuts the riverwalk in half.

Also, I wish that epic had a better connection with the street on the the bridge side. There is steps leading up from the river to a service door and a nice "wall fountain" on the street side, but a 3.5' wall separtaing both sides. Seems rather silly. Hopefully that will be "fixed" one day. It would be nice to be able to cross the bridge from brickell and walk and turn to the river... Just some thoughts.

I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty busy getting my own business off the ground these days. Looking good so far. Placed an order for three 16 x 24 inch prints for my first client today and someone at the photo lab asked me for a business card.

Apologies Q...I meant to chastise Exploratus!
I realize you are too busy making things happen to be complaining all the time.

Exploratus...call Marc Saranoff the City Commissioner for the district, or stop by your NET (neighborhood enhancement team) office.
Not sure what the river authority is, but if you tried the Miami River Commission, that probably won't go very far. They have some, but not much power...the MRC recommends, suggests, and advocates.

I would guess that the same people responsible for cleaning and maintaining the riverwalk would probably be the people to contact with regards to removing the fence/obstruction. If anything you could google city of miami and look for a telephone number. Might not be the right nuimber, but then maybe they can point you in the right direction.

I just want to know why nobody here took even a single photo of some hapless, underdressed tourist being all grumpy about the 35-degree night and desperately trying to look unfazed while they search for a sweater/coat/car heater, etc.

C'mon. Every true Miamian has had a rare, guilty snicker or two at the expense of stunned, freezing tourists. It's part of being a local.

Anyway, whether you loved or hated the recent cold snap I hope you fellas at least had some fun with it---maybe got to wear some clothes you forgot you owned or snuggled with a space heater (or maybe something livelier) or whatever. Back in the 70's it was pretty routine to have that type of weather down there---at least on a semi-regular basis---but now it's become VERY rare...just like it hardly ever snows up here anymore.

It's January. A little cold weather never hurt anyone, and girls in sweaters have their own charms.

Anyway, on that note, I also heard from my arranger yesterday who said he will go forward with the synchronization of my music video concept and will let me worry about getting clearance to market it. My next door neighbor works for an adverstising firm and is also familiar with the recording artist. I showed him how the concept was supposed to work by flipping through the prints I had made so far in the order they are to follow in time with the music. He thought the idea was brilliant, so we shall see. At this point, I'm just waiting for the tax information from my mortgage company. They are supposed to email it to me when it's ready. I have my W2 already.

Nice pics Roark, I like that restaurant. No doubt its probably expensive but the atmosphere looks very nice and Miami-ish for lack of better words.
