I made a 900-kilometer road trip in Germany today Road trip season has begun! I clinched the entire A27 and all short motorways around Bremen. A270 was a bit of a surprise, it's so low-standard it's not worth the status of Autobahn. A281 in northern Bremen is basically just an interchange. The rest of A281 is isolated from the Autobahn network so there wasn't a lot of traffic there. B6 in Bremen was also interesting, most maps show it as a motorway-like road, but there are two parts that have only one lane each way. I wonder how congested it is, it was already loaded at noon.

That's not very patriotic... Escaping to Germany on a day like this... If I had time I would have been in Amsterdam.

They just showed the headlines for BBC London news on BBC1 which will be shown at the end of the national news, and they are saying that they are going to test Dutch style roundabouts with what I'm going to call separate facilities for cyclists ( another roundabout around on the pavement basically).

Those are the best type of roundabouts. It greatly reduces turn-off accidents between cyclists and vans / trucks.

In such roundabout cyclists have priority over other vehicles, don't they?

Any chance for a piloting picture of A270 today?

Both options are possible. This varies in the Netherlands as well. Most provinces have priority to cyclists when these roundabouts are within city limits, but northern provinces do not give priority to cyclists on this type of roundabouts, citing safety studies.

Cyclists always have priority on roundabouts where the cycle lane is integrated with the roundabout. Turbo roundabouts should always have cyclists separated and preferrably with only 1 crossing instead of all branches. The best designs have a raised turbo roundabout with cyclists passing below, for example here.

Road-trip season has started also for me. To warm-up I'm doing tomorrow a 200 km round-trip to Hungary, to this place:

i've heard that he's been taking off, while heavy cargo that he's been carrying moved to the tail part due to poor fastening and de-balanced him

people say flying is safer than driving...at least with driving you have a permanent contact with the ground, most of the time...

Statistically much less people get killed per billion travel kilometers on airplanes than cars or bicycles. Heck, even walking gives you more chances of getting killed than flying.

this is like nuclear powerplants. they are probably the least devastating for enviroments. but when crap happens, then it is real crap. the same is with flying - mortality in very rare accidents is extremely high.
