Sphinx (3:02) in Triglav is stuning

Here is a picture from the Vrata valley>

Amazing. Sooner or later.

I was wondering, how much do Slovenes from other regions (let's say, from Pomurska, or Obalno-kraška) "feel" Triglav as a symbol of their nation. I mean, I respect Etna or Mont Blanc, but those are not "my" mountains...

Well, etna is around 1000km from you triglav' s peak is technically even in the same Litoral region as the coast. but distances have secondary meaning here, because triglav is national symbol and it's on the flag. Why, maybe because slovenes like hiking.

Triglav is visible from most of the country, even from coastal region, except from far northeast, because it's too far. It also has very distinctive look from all sides.

True but Mont Blanc is nowhere nearly as accessible as Triglav. Also Italy is big country which exist only last 150 years or so with much larger differences than in most other European countries.

French people tried real hard in the past century to unilaterally redefine borders so that Mont Blanc is entirely theirs. They're the only country that still believes that.

True. If there's a patriotic mountain that would be Monte Pasubio (which I intend to climb in a couple of weeks) where fierce battles were fought against Austrians in WWI. But I seriously doubt anyone in Italy has an idea what it looks like

A minor satellite, not worth mentioning

The summit covers both countries, whether they like it or not.

Up there it doesn't matter in which country lies the peak. Also most climbed route is from Chamonix, France, anyway.

I think people would want to know in which country Europe's second highest summit is.
