Some days ago I had some burgers for supper. Nothing special up here.

But these burgers were made of... HORSE MEAT!

At least we knew they were made of... horse meat .

If you want to have a good laugh, read this posts on the Romanian motorways thread.

Here we have very popular burger chain, named Horse burger = yes, food from horse meat, which is nothing unusual here around (eating snails however is)
The best of them is foal steak (from young horses) in burger.

I never understood this big panic around horse meat as if it was radioactive.

The panic was because they were saying that they sell you cow meat... and it was actually horse meat. So it was a problem with labeling.

The problem is not a food or horse meat itself, but the way grocery and food chains lie customers. Horse meat is much better than e.g. pork.

Here is my experience with lying: I've been in Tesco recently and bought a frankfurters I really love. Since the price (0,30 €) was a bit suspicious, I had a look at etiquette and this is what I saw: share of meat (10 %), water (60 %), etc...

Finally, I have ended up with much more expensive (2,50 €) but meat share was 95 %. Strange how they looked similar.

Well, the best part is that we didn't got lied. They were sold as foal (I was looking for that word instead of "young horse") meat, not pork or beef.

Really, I think they should make the same with the R-series motorways around Madrid. But without rebuilding them .

Horse meat is a taboo in some countries, however in other countries it's nothing special. It's cheaper, that's why this scandal occurred, horse meat was sold for the price of beef.

The problem of false labelling are two:
- Many horses were former racing horses that took chemical drugs that are harmful to humans.
- In USA and UK, unlikely in most of Europe, eating horse meat is a taboo and many Americans/Brits are shocked with the only though of having ate it. It's like giving pork to Muslims, cow to Indians or dog\cat to Europeans without knowledge.

Thank you!

Well no, I have drawn in my maps the road I am going to drive through. I cannot understand google earth so well and I am going to take the ferry from Ystad (Sweden) to Swinoujscie (Poland), but in Google earth they show there are no ferries connecting between these cities. I'm no fan of Google Earth.

Where do you guys make your road maps? In Google earth or elsewhere?

The vacation will take 1 mouth.

get used to google maps.
i use both, maps and earth. earth more for terrain exploring because navigation is way faster, and maps exclusively for traffic situations and itineraires. sometims i still use oldfahioned viamichelin to get an idea (i still often functionate in old way of road maps)

Note: Taking a boat Ystad-Swinoujscie-Ystad.

The driving in Continental Europe:
