Google Maps went from an excellent route planning tool to "find your local restaurant review" thingy.

There's still the possibility to use the old maps, afaik you could only use the new one if you actually clicked to use it (on a sort add on the left side of the maps-page). I never use it immediately because I want to know what the new version is like. I'm gonna avoid using the new version as long as possible :p

That doesn't prove anything. You can drive 200 km/h on many Spanish railways and train drivers always boast about speed records. Or this isn't boasting?

As for GMaps, thank god I haven't clicked on the new version.

I clicked on the new version, but I also found the way to get the old one back. It's far better...

However stubs aren't that bad, more people are likely to expand an existing article instead of creating a new one.

Road-wise, it.wiki is very detailed about Italian roads but very scarce and outdated about foreign roads.
The major problem with Italian wikipedia, in my opinion, is this practice of making insanely long articles on "prose" style, instead of breaking them into categories or even different articles. It happens often for articles covering cities (example: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palermo)

Instead of referring to other articles, they will repeat a lot of information, and create walls of text.

It's basically the history and monuments / architecture that makes that article very long. If Dutch articles about cities are long, usually half the length are lists of trivial stuff.

For example: Phoenix (Arizona)

¾ of the article is trivial stuff like a stupid nearby places "map", notable residents and list of sister cities. Nothing about history, geography, economy or transportation.

I've used the new GMaps for 3 months now. I didn't like it at first but now that I've got used to it, I don't mind it, really. It also runs a lot smoother and loads faster than the old GMaps with OpenGL, at least for me. The public transport integration is also very very good, IMO. It does lack some of the other aspects of the old GMaps, though, many of which have been mentioned here already.

I won't be suprised if somebody prove that genesis of that disaster was more complicated than it seems to be.

The public version probably is. I got an invitation to use it at the end of May. I even posted about it here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...ostcount=20366

I can't find my post about it (I said there were too many white roads), I guess it was in the middle of a gypsy debate and Chris deleted it. I think CNGL said sth about it too. Maybe it was 2-3 weeks ago.
