There are a few states in the USA, but they're not really countries.

Are you talking about quadripoints or back to English being a weird language?

If it's about quadripoints, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico have one. It's known as the Four Corners, and sometimes people call the whole area around that point, even to the four entire states, as the Four Corners.

At the municipal, or even the county, level, the Midwest's chock-full of them, thanks to the systematic survey of those lands. (Two maps for the price of one: muncipalities in Oakland County, Michigan, on the left and counties in Michigan on the right:

Yes I was on about quadripoints...
With so many square states there was bound to be a few of them...

English is not a weird language...

Is it?

Actually, the Four Corners is the only quadripoint at state level.

As far as English being weird, that's how we keep foreigners on their toes.
(Seriously, the spelling is, um, how to put it, not ideal.)

Find below an actual conversation recorded on
channel 106 of the maritime emergency frequency
off the Galatian coast of Spain between
Spaniards and Americans the 16th of October,
1997. Apparently, it has been released only
recently.
Spaniard: (background noise) This is A-853,
please alter your heading 15 degrees to the south
to avoid collision. You are headed straight for us,
at a distance of 25 nautical miles.
American : (background noise) We suggest you
alter your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid
collision.
Spanish: Negative. Repeat, please turn 15
degrees south to avoid collision.
Americans : (another voice) This is the captain of
a ship of the United States of America speaking.
We request that you turn 15 degrees north to
avoid collision.
Spanish: We do not consider that doable, nor
convenient. Please turn 15 degrees to the south
to avoid colliding with us.
Americans : (heated tone) THIS IS CAPTAIN
RICHARD JAMES HOWARD SPEAKING, IN
COMMAND OF THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS
LINCOLN OF THE UNITED STATES NAVY, THE
SECOND LARGEST WARSHIP IN THE AMERICAN
FLEET.
WE ARE ESCORTED BY 2 GUNBOATS, 6
DESTROYERS, 5 BATTLESHIPS, 4 SUBMARINES,
AND A NUMBER OF OTHER SUPPORT VESSELS.
I DO NOT "SUGGEST", I "ORDER" YOU TO
CHANGE YOUR HEADING 15 DEGREES TO THE
NORTH. IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY, WE TAKE ALL
NECESSARY MEASURES TO ENSURE THE
SAFETY OF THIS VESSEL.
PLEASE OBEY IMMEDIATELY AND REMOVE
YOURSELVES FROM OUR COURSE!!!
Spanish: This is Juan Manuel Salas Alcantara
speaking. We are two people. We are escorted by
our dog, food, 2 beers, and a canary that's asleep
at the moment. We have the support of the radio
station "Cadena Dial de La Coru" and channel
106 of the emergency maritime frequency.
We aren't going to turn anywhere, seeing as
we're speaking from land. We're in the lighthouse
A-853 of Finisterra on the Galatian coast. We
don't have the foggiest clue about where we rank
in Spanish affairs. You can take whatever
measures you please and do whatever the ****
you want to guarantee the safety of your piece of
**** vessel, that's going to crash into the rocks!
So we insist, once again, and we recommend you
do the most sensible thing and change your
heading 15 degrees south to avoid collision.
Americans : Roger, thanks.

The same joke exists between Slovenia and Croatia since our maritime border is disputed.

Here an article regarding A/I/SLO
http://borderhunting.blogspot.de/200...-slovenia.html

Unfortunately it seems that the lift from Austrian side is closed now. Don't think I will have the necessary time to make it this year, but I will plan in advance, next year if I will drive in the area .

http://www.3laendereck.at/5285.htm
"Der Liftbetrieb ist beendet! Wir danken unseren Gästen für ihren Besuch"
"Betriebszeiten von Samstag, 25. Mai bis Sonntag, 15. September und Donnerstag, 19. September bis Sonntag, 22. September 2013!"

No tripoints for me yet. I'm not very interested in them, just those in the mountains. I'm planning in visiting the Piz Lat one (I-A-CH) some day.

Then go by foot, it's not that hard, about 2 hours upward:

And I thought Europe, especially south, is the main place for bureaucrats showing themselves in public.

I don't know because it is a forest road and I wouldn't do that by car anyway (going with mountain bike to the top should be no problem). Judging by aerial and other available photos quality of the road is such that it can be driven almost to the top by normal car (not sports car) but I think it is not legal to do that all the way. I think you can drive almost to the mountain hut Dom na Tromeji (second link above) which substantially shortens walk to the top.

This isn't necessarily a quadrapoint but if you stand at the end of the Mull Of Galloway peninsula in Scotland you can see 4 countries -Scotland (obviously), England, Northern Ireland & Isle of Man.

No, you cannot drive till the tripoint, certainly not from Italy. FVG region has a regional law (L.R. 15\1991) against private traffic on most mountain dirt roads.
Only vehicles with an autorization from the forestal autority can get in.

BTW, there's also a quadripoint between 4 Canadian provinces.
The exclave of Jungholz forms a quadripoint between A and D.

Yes, I thought about it. But I have plenty of 3000+ peaks to climb next year in Piedmont, I'd go for them.

Too far, too low and I guess too crowded for me
