Summer-like temperatures in the Netherlands today. Quite rare for late October. The normal average maximum temperature for late October is 12 C.

Over here it's roughly -7C at night and 4C during daytime

Looks like the weather in the Netherlands is better now than it was when I visited it at the beginning of July...

Car engineering cool channel

I don't like making third-party referrals here, but there is this youtube channel that I found to be really nice for those interested in automotive engineering without a deep knowledge of mechanical engineering to begin with.

Będą to kolejne odcinki nowych dróg na Podkarpaciu.

It will be the next episodes of new roads livescore.com. (Translated by Bing)

Podkarpaciu = livescore.com?

Bing often generates absurd translations. Podkarpackie is a province of Poland, not a website.

Google translate, which is no stranger to absurd translation, gives:

I will try to translate this joke.

A Czech minister of transportation pays a visit to its German colleague. He is amazed. Huge luxurious villa. Latest Ferrari and Lamborghini in the garage. The Czech wonders, where did you get so much money? The German minister replies.

"It goes like this. Do you see the Motorway up there?"
"Yes."
"It should have been 20 meters broad, but I have made it 19 and the savings is paying for my nice life"
"Aha, I see"

After a year the German minister comes to visit his Czech colleague and see a magnificent chateau surrounded by a park, a helicopter standing in front of it. Amazed he asks how did he get to such a fortune.

"You see, the matter goes like this. Do you see the motorway?"
"No I don't see any motorway."
"So, you see!"

Same here in Slovakia. Tomorrow, the a police car overtook me at approx. 80 kph, and went through the red light while turning in prohibited direction. Passing the intersection, they stopped to set up a tripod and assembled radar to measure other drivers Slovak police.

But I feel really sorry for that policeman. He was doing his job, by controlling the intersection was helping other drivers and the bull just flatten him

Ah, now that I see the file name, I do.

Americans didn't invent the customary measurement system (and aren't the only ones using it). But we got to the fricking moon using it.

(Seriously, why is it such an issue for you all?)

It's not the system per se. It has good points (every sub-unit is easily divisible by 2) and bad points (our numerical system is base ten so why using the foot-inch base 12 system?). As you said, it got you to the moon, so there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

It's just that you're basically the only one left using it (come on, Burma does not count).

I did not mean it offensive and do not agree with the name of the file. Just wanted to point out the scale starting with 32°F what is not logically at first glance. I assume the system is not based on freezing/boiling water.

So? Why does it matter to you all? Why does it matter, period?

(And that's not true. At least in unofficial, real-life usage. The soft-drink machine in my hotel in Montreal last month was informing me that the drinks were cold - "39F" (and doing so in French, so it's not just a matter of the machine being imported from the US)
