That'll come in handy if I ever want to offend someone in Slovenia. :-P

(Closest I've been to Slovenia is probably a train through the Brenner.)

That's almost like saying: the closest I've been to America is probably Cardiff...

Please. From this distance, northeastern Italy and Slovenia are right next door to each other.

Oh, wait....

Better use English curse words, otherwise no one will know you tried to offend them.

I visited Iceland and Greenland*.

* I saw them from 30000 ft from a Boeing 767 while flying to NY.

A photo I shot above Greenland (not so green in this pic):

As for Slovenia and its language, I spent last weekend with some Slovenes and we had lot of fun. I don't know, which words has memorized my Slovene friends, but these two made me laugh:

Kačica = in Slovak duck, in Slovenian little snake
Jedy = in Slovak poisons, in Slovenian foods

:-) and we are talking about common Slavic roots

Why many Europe - USA flights do cross the Arctic? Do you know how far north (approx latitude) did you pass?

2 reasons:
- the shortest route between Europe and USA is not a straight line as you look on a plain map, but something like an arc that goes to the north. This is because planet Earth is not flat, but something like a sphere. Try the google maps measuring tool to see exactly what I mean.
- in case something happens, there are emergency airports in Ireland, Iceland, Greenland and northern Canada. If the plane would flow directly across the Atlantic they don't have any nearby airports to land in case of emergency.

I passed just south of Iceland (I didn't see it ), and over the southern part of Greenland (there I took that picture of those mountains). After that passed over northern Canada that's full of forests.

I knew the fact about the distance being shorter if you fly more north (b/c the Earth is round), but until what point? Maybe it's convenient flying over Greenland if you're going from London or Moscow to Montreal or Boston but maybe not if you're flying from Naples or Madrid to Atlanta or Miami.

By the way, it's getting a little anoying all this American ignorance stuff. There is, with no doubts, same amount of stupid people in Europe. I've already heard that Poland must be somewhere around North Pole (probably because of a semanthic similarity of both terms). I heard it from a British - called herself - an educated person.

I recently heard a professor talking about new EU members, for example Romania and Serbia.

People don't know shit about EU. My friend from Ljubljana was surprised to hear that Hungary was "already" a part of it.

Hear, hear, but what did I miss?

On second thought, don't tell me.

people with the lack of geographical knowledge are everywhere, more or less, the video itself is funny, that's why I posted it.

Ah. I usually don't bother watching videos posted on line (only so many hours in the day...)

Isn't Serbia in Eu yet?

A couple of days ago I was purchasing an insurance for one of my cars. I asked to add a green card to my insurance policy, because I am going to visit Bosnia&Hercegovina in the next year. A gentelman on the other side read something, thought for a while, talked to himself for more than a while and finally said that unfortunately he could not help me now, because a broker he works for does not recognise that country, however, he said, their policy is valid in the whole EU, so I shouldn't worry.

Absolute epicness. Also thanks to music and colors, this is one of the best driving videos I've ever seen...

(I really hope it was made without hidden tricks)

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

Due to Photobucket f*cking up, most images won't be visibile in my old posts. If you need anything specific, please write me.

At least I don't think the distance from Cardiff to America is comparable to the distance from the Brenner to Slovenia, unlike some people I could mention. :-P
