Philadelphia, as of 7 a.m. today, has over 50 inches (125 cm) of snow for the winter. Which is way, way above average. (I heard the other day that the average is six-point-something and last year was 13, or else it's the other way around. Either number is so far below 50 it doesn't really matter.)

Those of you griping about a lack of winter weather are welcome to come over here; just bring shovels.

Incongruously, baseball spring training starts today. In Florida and Arizona.

The Netherlands still hasn't seen any winter weather, except for a small belt in the far northeast which had some snow a few weeks ago.

On the other hand, the British and Irish islands are getting pounded by one storm after the other. There is major flooding in many parts of the UK, especially the southwest. Apparently they did not maintain the drainage systems, such as pumping stations and dredging rivers and canals.

Some point out that the Netherlands is currently not experiencing any flooding, which is correct, but the UK has gotten far worse weather this winter than the Netherlands, were we usually just sideswiped by the windstorms and we also got far less rain. So the situations are not entirely comparable.

What about the slovenian intentions to change the official flag? I have noticed, that they had already introduced the light green color either on licence plates or now, on olympic games jerseys and jackets. Could the new tricolour be blue-white-green?

Right now I am watching the SLO-SVK ice hockey game, and I must state that slovenian jerseys look very fresh and fashionable. I like the combination.

That is huge win for us, the first win at the Olympic hockey tournament. To beat Hockey team Slovakia which is one of the best in the world, is big ..so happy right now

Green is Slovenian national color, although it isn't on the flag (same as blue for Italian sportsmen). Street name plates in Ljubljana are also green.

First, Slovakia played nothing. It was the worst game just after hard victory over Hungary in WC 2009.
Second, wow for Slovenia! The performance! First I thought they let Canadians to put Slovenian jerseys on. Great performance.

Ultimately, it would not be fair if Slovenia had not won. Definitely. I hold my fingers croosed for you. Prhaps the roster of Slovakia sounds good, the team spirit is gone due to small war between two players.

Reigning House of Savoy official colour was blue, since 1360. We adopted the hue for sports in 1911, Savoy kings still ruling, and we kept also after WWII when Italy became a Republic.
