Isn't Albania too dangerous to drive with foreign plates?

Don't think so, Albania is full of cars with Western European license plates, mostly belonging to Albanian emigrants returning home for holiday or European tourists on their way to Greece.
One should only adopt common sense precautions that are usually reccomended to tourists in developing countries.

You will lose much time between Tirana and St. Naum.

Well, I have German plates, and Germans are friends with the Albanians
The only thing I am a little worried is maybe the chaotic Balkans drive style, not that Romania is a model of civilization.

Also, I hope my car or car parts won't get stolen, it is pretty new

What do you mean?
Is the road bad or difficult? Or packed with cars?
Do you have a better alternative?

Anyway, it's vacation, so not really in a big hurry

Watch out. The beggars e.g. on Macedonian borders fully ignore cars with foreign licence plates except for those from Germany and France I don't have an expensive car, but as washed it looks fairly good. And the beggars (fortunately) ignored us last time But I felt really sorry for the old Skoda car with German licence plates in front of me. The beggar begged as long as we've been waiting for the border check literally 45 minutes And was indeed intrusive (knocking on windows, etc.)

That is good, because if there are problems with unrest in Bosnia, it will really be an epic trip! Sounds like a great vacation.

If you have not already thought about it, I would suggest that you plan the trip regarding day light for the section after motorways ends in Croatia.

Have not read your previous posts about your trip so dont know if you really mentioned it :P

The road is quite in a catastrophic condition especially on the Albanian side. If it was me I would not drive that road. Anyway I've never been in Albania but I hear bad sounds.

What an ignorant soul . Buddy , please dont spread more ignorance .... ! I would suggest you stick to what you know ,

cinxxx From Tirana to Elbasan is a motorway , and from Elbasan to the Macedonian border a very comfortable 1 x 1 road with a 60 to 80 km per h , which i have driven myself . Perfect road conditions !

Tirana elbasan motorway is under consturction BUT currently 1 side of the motorway is open for circulation and the 2.5km tunnels as well . , and in 4 months will be totally finished .

Here is a video from 3 months ago , where you can see the whole way from Tirana to Elbasan in just 3 minutes and 50 seconds ( timelaps ) .

You see some parts of the motorway as well , and there is a big chance that the whole motorway from Tirana to Elbasan to be open , since the deadline is in 4 months from now .

I suggest you watch it .

In the last seconds of the video , you see the state of the road after Elbasan as well .

Thanks!
I should be there in the last days of May, that's earlier then 4 months, so the motorway may not be completely finished yet.
I'm also interested in the amount of time needed, but I can refer to the Albanian section for those questions too.

Good video. It is true that I also heard bad voices, but it was about 10 years ago and now, few of my friends have already visited Albania and were really glad to see how fast is country developing. How long is that tunnel at approx. 2.27?

Albania these last 10 years has made enormous progress , be that economical or social .

The tunnel is 2.5 kms long . And this is the second longest tunnel in albania , because the Rreshen to Morine ( kosova ) motoway has a 6 kms tunnel as well .

Good work. I can imagine how perfect it will be after completion.

You have never been in Albania but you know that the road is in a quite catastrophic condition? That seems logic to assume then...
