American news talking about Cyprus

Wow...

Why is it usually CNN that screws these things up? Have they never heard of Google Maps or something on which they can quickly check whether they're creating their next f*ck-up and then correct it?
Geez...

Talking about Cyprus, I find it interesting that Nicosia doesn't lie by the sea.

Wait! I think the map is incorrect. Where is the Italian Republic of Northern Cyprus?

I get the error now! A town in Sicily is called "Nicosia", and it is exactly where depicted:

Usually larger cities are positioned by the sea, especially on (relatively) tiny islands as Cyprus.

Look at Sicily island for example. The largest cities (Palermo, Messina, Catania, Syracuse) all are positioned by the sea. Largest city in Sardinia is Calgary which again is on the sea shore. Ajaccio in Corsica or Ibiza or Palma de Mallorca in the Spanish islands are also good examples.

It seems you have mixed up Cagliari with Calgary But it is normal for inhabitants of Romanian Empire

Correct. However, Sochi is definitely not in Sardinia ;-)

Calgary is spelled different than Cagliari. Never noticed this before

Exactly. I'm trying to think of another smaller island with the largest city not by the sea. All I can come up with are London (Britain) and Antananarivo (Madagascar), but they aren't small islands.

EDIT: I've found it: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on the Russian Sakhalin island. But interestingly, it's very close to the sea.

Sapporo (Hokkaido) is near the sea but not by the sea.

Partly it lies by the sea, but yeah, I guess the city wasn't meant to be lying by the sea at first. Such examples are even more interesting.
