Am I the only one who thinks the World Cup logo is doing a Picard?

For that matter, why am I - of all people - the only one on this thread showing any interest in this supposedly great international sporting event?

The last match of the day is a bit unfortunate for continental Europeans, they start at midnight. Not a good combination if you have to work the next day and the match ends at 2 a.m.

I tried to stay awake and watch England-Italy, but fell asleep at 11:40 pm

Ik? Moi ?

I'm not Belgian, I just like the country. It sits there minding its own business, waiting for its neighbors to invade it, never (almost) firing a shot in its own internal differences....

And Stella is not a Walloon beer!

By the way, I haven't seen any scores for Team Canada yet.

Sort of like when the Olympics are in Europe: we get everything on TV hours after it's happened and have to spend the day avoiding sites that might tell us the scores. At least if we care, which I mostly don't. I do care about the Tour de France - subject change alert - which has the same issue. Except I care more about the scenery (and roads!) than which addict's going to "win." WHICH reminds me I learned today the 2015 Tour starts in Utrecht.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, they're still apparently scheduling for a European audience. Two of three games per day are during the work day here and the last is right after work. By 8 p.m. Eastern time, they're done for the day. But Brazil (or the bulk of it), if I'm not mistaken, is only an hour ahead of us. I haven't really paid attention, though, to what games are at what time - meaning does that "midnight European time" game involve teams like Japan and Australia. Or us. Countries where it's a reasonable time of day to be watching. (Russia played in the middle of the night, Russian time, just now....)

No, he is from Philadelphia....which is a Greek name. A suburb of Athens, Greece is also named Philadelphia.

Popular nicknames for Philadelphia are Philly and The City of Brotherly Love, the latter of which comes from the literal meaning of the city's name in Greek (Greek: Φιλαδέλφεια ([pʰilaˈdelpʰeːa], Modern Greek: [filaˈšelfia]) "brotherly love", compounded from philos (φίλος) "loving", and adelphos (ἀδελφός) "brother").

At least Spain (which plays today against Chile) didn't get a match at midnight CEST. Today it's again at 21:00.

The match schedule is even worse for China. They have already reported three deaths due to lack of sleep because of the World Cup.

If you start at 8 AM then I don't see a problem. You sleep 4-5 hours, which should be enough for average productive work. In such cases I often plan a workday ahead that the work next day is mentally simple (of course this is not always possible)
However if you start at 6 AM then ...

Yes, you can do it once. Sleeping 5 hours instead of 8 is OK. Once. However we have a football game at midnight every single day. And sleeping 5 hours in 15 consecutive nights is really, really very exhausting.

The quality of Bing translating:

Original text:
W oczekiwaniu na otwarcie węzła Korczowa (A4) prezentujemy Wam z lotu ptaka obwodnicę Leżajska w ciągu drogi krajowej nr 77 (I etap).

Translation by Bing:
In anticipation of the opening soccer match in Donetsk, node (A4) we present You a bird ring road in Lizhensk national road 77 (and stage).

Interchange Korczowa is translated to a soccer match in Donetsk? What the heck?

Then you don't watch all of them. Personally I didn't watch even one game.

(it helps a lot being without TV already for 2 months)

@g.spinoza - most people with babies don't sleep even 5 hours per night for many months. And they're still very productive albeit tired.

That's crazy. And China's not even in it.
