Yes, I realize I can easily find that out....

On a lighter note, it didn't rain here in Seattle today.

So. You know, in most of team sports always a whole team (all players that are on the field) are in attack or all of them are in defense. Basketball, (american) football, ice hockey, team handball (a sport which is popular is several European nations but almost unknown in North America), all work so. As far as I know soccder is the only team sport where it is not so.
There are several tactical options, described usually by the positions of the 10 field players, e.g. 4-2-3-1 (4 defenders, 2 defensive midfielders, 3 offensive midfielders and 1 striker), or 3-5-2 or 4-3-3, etc. If both teams have defensive tactics, you will see a game of 0-0, or perhaps 1-0. Algeria played against Germany with 6-4-0 and sometimes 6-3-1, very defensive so they did not manage to score but they could play 90 minutes without a German score. If both teams play offensive, then you'll see several goals.

This variety of tactics make this sport beautiful. Although my favorite sport is handballl (I visit U20 world championships in Croatia today), I am a great fan of soccer as well.

The BBC coverage showed that last night. They also had scheduled programme beginning at 00:20 this morning called Seven Wonders Of Brazil. Who says the Beeb doesn't have a sense of humour.

If Greece played against Germany, I bet it wouldn't lose in such a humiliating way. It would be something like 3-0, not 7-1! Brazil was utterly destroyed!

I bet Greece would win. Greek football team has always incredible luck. Remember one guy in local discussion board who stated "If Titanic had been led by Greek sailors, iceberg would have been the one to sink".

I'll have to remember that the next time I need to pay attention to soccer. In 2018. :-)

(But don't basketball and hockey work the same way?)

Yes, but game is much faster and pitches much smaller... they almost have no midfield play, which is so important in soccer.

Ok, I came across this guy again. He has touched the world with his teared eyed and clinging on to his trophy.

But there is more:

This sad Brazilian fan was shown crying. But no ones published this beautiful picture of him handing the trophy to a German fan. He was quoted as saying 'Take it to the final! As you can see, it is not easy, but you deserve it, congratulations'

What a beautiful gesture!
