There's a joke that she burned 900 calories in an hour. She left the pizza too long in the oven and it got burned

At least we cannot say that she hasn't enough political weight.

Her last name, by the way, is De Block.

Apparently, she's a doctor: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggie_De_Block

Perhaps she actually has a condition....

this guy is health minister in Quebec, Canada:

If you search his name (Gaetan Barrette) on Google Images it auto-suggests "Jabba the Hut"

I just saw Chris Christie on my TV screen (well, my hotel TV in Maine. He's campaigning for the governor up here.)

This is relevant because, well, http://www.slate.com/content/dam/sla...l-original.jpg

Okay, now I feel bad. Although not very.

We have a communal elections in November and the campaign is currently peaking. Candidates are competing who will promise more. But this one has gone too far:

"Stays in Croatia for seniors". How can someone even promise that! Populism at its best

We have a satirical party called the Two-Tailed Dog Party which usually promises eternal life and free beer for its voters.

There are rumors in the Internet that his obesity was an obstacle for his candidation as president.

Obese people are taken less seriously for some reason. Maybe for the perceived lack of self-control.

I too have some colleagues who are severely overweight and have trouble walking normally. We have flexible working spaces, so often I have to readjust the arm supports on the chair to a narrower position.

I don't think that picture's him.
He was elected governor in 2009, reelected in 2013. I believe his previous job was U.S. Attorney (Federal prosecutor) for New Jersey, which is appointed, not elective. At some point during his governorship he had weight-loss surgery. His main obstacle to running for President is that he's far, far too liberal (in the American sense of the word) for the people who vote in Republican primaries.

I know Maggie De Block as minister of health looks bad, and I was surprised to read that she was a doctor, because I'd expect a doctor in particular to be aware of the problems that that can cause. But there are people who (at least to some degree) can't help it because of their genetics or some medical condition, aren't there?

That's not so bad. At first I thought it said "We'll kill all seniors in Croatia", because "pobiti" means "to kill" in Slovenian and Croatian.

It's kinda similar how we can be baffled by halal restaurants since halál means death in Hungarian.

When I first saw that poster, I thought: "gosh it is like death-camps", we will export seniors, but you've really improved it

Actually that isn't unappropriate, since halal butchery is very cruel against animals.
