Have you got a driver's licence already?
A few times I've driven in Canada during large snow storms, like on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, with large accumulation, but there is low traffic and the plow didn't pass yet... it's somewhat strange to drive along a 2x3 freeway with 3-5 cm hard snow under the tires, maybe driving 90 km/h or so, it's a pretty strange feeling but I enjoy it. I haven't done that in a few years.

anyone ever drive on sand before? I once drove on the beach out in "Outer Banks" (e.g. Kitty Hawk) North Carolina. When sand was deep I was scared to get stuck

Talking of snow, footage from suburban Buffalo on the Weather Channel this morning...they were following an organized-on-Facebook crew of volunteers shoveling people out...main roads are clear. to that area's sanitation crews or whoever's responsible for that.

Intriguing.... http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/t...ttenhouse.html

Passed it on my Sunday-afternoon shopping. Not open yet but the signage presents it as a rebirth of a famous place in L'Aquila... Do our Italians know anything about the original?

I would not like to interrupt Penns's question, but a small ridiculous, elementary and stupid question. So I rather colour it in grey.
Can someone explain me the difference between words transport and transportation? Because googling has not got me wiser. Being a non-native speaker, I understand transport as a noun describing transporting things from point A to B. Transportation sounds more like theory or science about transport in general to me.Thanks.

That's quite all right. I still don't know what Fatfield and Nbcee were on about. Or for that matter, what "ontvoogding" means in Dutch. Which I asked about a week and a half ago.

I'm not sure there's much difference between "transport" and "transportation," really....

EDIT: I Googled this: "usage transport versus transportation"

The first, second and fourth hits are different articles or discussions on usage. Apart from all saying Americans often say "transportation" where Brits would say "transport" (which is true), I'm not sure they all agree.

The tenth hit is an article about "Public Transport" (in the headline) which talks exclusively about "transportation" in the text. Headline written by a Briton, or by someone trying to save a few letters?

Thank you a lot.
I've tried to say that horrible Dutch word and it definitely sounded like I'd been suffocating. So I tried translate it instead.

It returns no result in English, but in Slovak it refers to "emancipation".

'Transport' and 'Transportation' mean the same thing, but in the UK 'transportation' is generally only used in relation to penal transportation, especially transportation to Australia, and 'transport' is used in other contexts.

It was in an article about a proposal to rename the province of Antwerp "Midden-Brabant," which would be a logical consequence of Antwerp's "ontvoogding" from the province (and Ghent's from its province, East Flanders). I know I posted it here, or maybe in International Borders, since the Belgian bits* of Baarle are in the province in question.

*would that be the naughty bits? Well, I guess not, with the marijuana....

'ontvoogding'. Well, I have never heard the word before, but what I gather from logic is this:
A 'voogd' is someone who takes care of a child other than the parents (so parents are not 'voogden' (which is plural) but just parents). So 'ontvoogding' would be not having or being a voogd anymore for this child. So Antwerp being 'ontvoogd' from the (possibly new) province Midden-Brabant basically means that it would no longer be 'parented' by that new province.

But that's Flemish media which I rarely follow. Possibly the word is used more in Flanders than in The Netherlands.
