Available only to non-Europeans.

But you have something comparable (apparently) available:

I have one colleague who could save nearly 2 hours per day if he went by car instead of bus + train. However, he travels public transport for free, while driving would mean buying a second car and relatively high maintenance cost due to the daily distance.

Another factor is the availability and cost of parking. This is one of the main 'selling points' of public transport. Travel time itself is often not the best thing about public transport (just look at the average commute time in Manhattan).
Remind us what the average commute time in Manhattan is? (And do you mean for people who live and work in Manhattan or people who work in Manhattan and live elsewhere?)

Both of them have their own roles. I would never suggest to drive from Cologne center to Frankfurt center, but I would never suggest to take the train from Bad Münstereifel to Bad Neuenahr.
Nuance? This is an Internet forum!

(Yes, I'm in catch-up mode.)

Somewhere around 50 minutes one-way. Which is the highest number in the US. If I recall correctly it's around 15 minutes above average.

(I needed that info for my Profielwerkstuk, but that's been some time ago now )

You could walk from one end of Manhattan to the other faster than that.

It's a special offer of the railway operator. A cheap ticket which is only available for specific trains and in very limited amount.

Presenting the weather is quite dangerous these days. You'll need at least a gun with silencer.

In the Spanish forum we made a query about longest stretch without curves.
Nowadays new road or motorways cannot have some of them (could be up to 20 km or so). By law... any light curve at least every two km. to make you paying attention in the road

I don't remember if in Poland it is 2000 or 3000m, but it still doesn't keep you from falling asleep.

There is a similar law in Italy too. However, in Italy building a long straight motorway would be impossible anyway, due to harsh terrain and extensive suburbanization in flat areas. Some stretches of A4, A8 and A9 are very straight, though, since the first carriaggeway was build in the 1920s/1930s when there were no laws of this kind and the countryside was emptier than now.

In real life, electronic toll collection was first introduced in Bergen, Norway in 1986, and well into the 21th century many countries still struggle to implement it.
