They don't have any banknote smaller than 10 CHF? Only coins? I'm still not entirely used on paying some small shopping I make sometime here in Austria, in Euros, just with coins. In Romania the smallest banknote, 1 RON, is worth 0.22 EUR.

In Romania we have now only plastic banknotes. They are pretty useful to be fair. You can forget them in your pockets when you wash your clothes and nothing happens to them. Also, they are pretty hard to break, so you won't have to be that careful with them.

Sweden will also introduce new bank notes this and next year, as well as replace the coins.

New bank notes (full res):

New coins (the 10 kr coin will remain the same):

I know it makes sense economically and practically and so on. You lose just a little something when you no longer have Descartes on the French however-many-franc note.

Did anyone ever consider letting Eurozone countries print their own paper money with their own artwork?

They had that before, and with exchange rates. There could be some degree of standardization (so that, say, blue always means 5 euros, red 10...) and the notes could be usable anywhere. Don't the coins work that way now?

Just a stray thought...none of my business.

The new swiss franc banknotes look strange for me too. The old ones actually looked more like money.

@bogdymol
We have coins up to five francs.

Well, I knew Egri bikaver was inappropriate for this particular occasion.

that's the point: people are used to have exchange rate between money/banknotes that have different appearance.
coins have only obverse different, reverse is the same. that makes them recognizable enough. also, who looks the value of the coin? we all know it's shape and size. with paper that would be little bit harder imo.

(As a french living in Romania) I personaly hate them , I don't like the plastic they used, it feels wrong on my fingers. I do like the touching of the paper, like they used for the Euro banknotes, and I love all the effects they added to it (the new 20€ banknote looks very nice to me... )

And I never broke any paper banknote in my whole life, so I think that it's not really an important thing...

But it's just my opinion!

Having country specific euro notes has no sense at all.
Example: Last weekend I visited Liège and bought there something. I got a very shiny 50 cent coin, with the portrait of the current Belgian king. I most probably will use that coin somewhere in Germany where I live, and the portrait of King Philippe will remain in Germany for several years.
And, additionally, I have a 2€ coin with Juan Carlos of Spain who is not a king any more and this coin, too, will possibly circulate in Germany for years.
With coins it is only slightly confusing but having several kinds of 10€ or 20€ notes in my pocket would not be nice. And all merchants would have forced to recognize 19 kinds of 10€, 19 kinds of 20€ notes, etc., having so much different kinds of 100, 200 and 500€ notes would be a real nightmare.

Also, in USA you have bigger notes (up to 10'000 USD), but they are quite rare.
I think this decision to withdraw 200 and 500 EUR is stupid, why don't they try to make them more complicate to falsify?
In Poland, it's even worst as the biggest note is 200 PLN, which is "only" 50 CHF .
US largest note in circulation is 100 USD

Previously were larger notes but were officially discontinued and withdrawn... but they are still legal tender and some exist, but oh, oh so rare

But especially with inflation I think 100 USD -level value is too low. 500 EUR max note is just OK, or 1000 USD is a good mark.
