The American tax system in fundamentally different than the European. US has sales taxes that are much lower than the average VAT (overall, you can compare sales taxes and VAT though their mechanics are totally different). Then, payroll taxes in US are astonishingly low compared to European ones. As Chris pointed, energy is heavily taxed in Europe. Income taxes go to the roofs, and we don't have anything near the generous "income tax credits" of US. The UK has the "council tax" which is assessed on an almost per-capita basis.

On the other side, corporate income taxes and real estate property taxes, and also inheritance taxes are higher in US.

I've considered it for a while, but I thought it is too small for comfortable web browsing. Is it?

Way too small to be a proper smartphone. It's more like a smart dumbphone.

Yeah, if you want to do extensive web browsing, it's too small. I just want to use it to occasionally check email and a few websites.

Question for experts.

Do we have in continental Europe any examples of highway merging from the left ?

I'm sure there are a few locations. Merging from the left would be extremely rare, but a left-hand exit may be somewhat more common. For example A81 just south of Stuttgart. The Netherlands also used to have one in Eindhoven before they reconstructed the A2 there.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but any place you've got two highways merging, one of them's going to be on the left.

btw in Drava near Osijek they really had weird caughts: first a guy has caught a trout (which lives far from Osijek, probably came from mountanious rivers which flow into Drava or Danube in upper part when water level was high. they last week guy caught albino catfish there, and now piranha

You really have a gift to catch phrases like that

I am pretty certain he meant this:

Let's focus on Katowicka. Katowicka should join 86 using a regular merging lane from right hand side, but it does in the way which is not, let's say, typical. 86 is far more important and congested than mentioned Katowicka, so 70 speed limit signs were posted on 86 to let drivers from Katowicka merge efficiently and safely.

Here's one in Toronto that often has close calls:

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=4...02773&t=k&z=19

The problem is not the direction (it merges on the right, which is fine), but the merge lane is almost non-existent and there is no warning that it's that short (such as a yield sign).
