I didn't know that lights are called the same in Italian and Slovenian (actually it's luči, but it's pronounced the same, except for accent).

Slovenia is sufficiently close to the Romance world to have taken some of the words, just by proximity. I'm sure there are more of them.

the word "night" is also similar in Italian and Slavic languages (notte / noc).

In fact, I just found out Polish cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) have a lot to do with the time of the day, for instance północ (north) means half night, or mid night. At the same time, południe (south) means half day, or midday. Zachód means "set" (as in sunset) and Zachód accordingly means west and Wschód means "rise" (as in sunrise), which of course means east.

This is also used in Italian. Although the official names of cardinal directions are "nord, sud, est, ovest", "Mezzogiorno" (midday) is used to indicate south, while "levante" and "ponente" - rising (sun) and setting (sun) - are used sometimes instead of east and west. But north, in Italian, is never replaced by "midnight" or something.

This is similar in Hungarian:

kel = to rise, so Kelet (East) is where the sun rises
nyugszik = to set, so Nyugat (West) is where the sun sets
Észak (North) written in archaic is Éjszak, éjszaka = night
Dél (South) means noon, midday

Today I (moronly) forgot my debit card at the gas station, and in TWENTY SECONDS it was stolen by a gypsy

A dumb gypsy, since automated gas stations are probably the most surveillance camera crowded places and the Police were pretty happy about that

Well, now the card is suspended and anyway it would have only worked with the PIN code... but, damn, in the event of forgetting the card, this was the worst possible ending

Yes, there are, but I was still surprised, because I didn't expect it. But it's the same only in plural (in Slovenian also in dual), while in singular it's luce in Italian, but luč in Slovenian.

No, I mean, I though you left the station by car and then someone came and took your card, so that you couldn't have seen him...

The gas station owner recognized the guy from surveillance video, and the Police (Carabinieri in fact) only needed the description of car and plate type to understand who he was.

Black Audi with German temporary plate, what a classic
