exactly. I was looking for a wallet in my car, and the guy was already out there waiting 'che cosa facciamo?' there's one more service area in Austria where they will fill up for you, right after the border with Italy on A2. and they will do it or 1,4€ hehe.

I saw plenty of that in Italy, except usually it's optional ("servito", with special price of course)

Yes, usually in motorway service areas you have a line of pumps "servito" and another one "self", obviously cheaper, and you can choose. In smaller areas, outside motorways, you may find only the "servito" or the "self" ones.

In Romania you could served at the gas station, and this doesn't cost anything, especially if they see a girl tanking. The guy could also wash your windshield. It depends, but no money is asked for it.

In Bulgaria also almost everywhere there are service-boys/girls at gas-station that fill up for you, and it doesn't cost any money. At big chains as Shell, OMV, EKO, Luoil it is something like a norm for them to wash your windschield and headlight, doesn't cost any money too. But usually it's normal to give them some tip (coins) as they work at a closer to a minimum salary and can make it double and more just from the tips.
Well, these service-boys/girls are less than the number of pumps at the station, so at busy time it's faster and easier to fill-up your tank for yourself, instead of waiting for them to free and come.
At LPG-pumps though it's forbidden people to fill-up for themselves, only gas-station service-men can do it.

In Hungary at every fuel station you can ask for a fill service. Officialy it's free but normally people give them some coins (tax free ;-)). Sometimes I ask for filling and cleaning the windshield and give him 200 forints (~0.70€) but usually I do it myself.

Technically in Italy it's not that make the guy pump your gas costs you more; it's that pumping yourself your gas costs you less

Sometimes, in smaller stations in Italy, if you go to a self-service pump, and the attendant is out there, he/she might refuel to you out of courtesy. But it is rare.

those "fai da te" pumps - is it with automatic payment, or you go to pay at cash?

in HR it is mostly self-service, but some gas stations have that politics that employees run to serve the customers (for isntance the one where i fill).

It depends. Sometimes you pay inside, sometimes outside, with a credit/debit card or money.

It's easy to buy a nice Audi when you're at the source of it (Ingolstadt)
