Today one of the greatest living Italian singer-songwriter died. I seldom listen to Italian music because I don't like it, but he was surely a poet.
Long live Lucio Dalla, may he rest in peace.

lol @ that photoshoped sign.

I once committed a faux-pas referring the the city of Geel as Geil, which has an improper connotation in Netherlands' Dutch. First when I mentioned to a (female) friend I had driven to Liege via Turnhout and Geil on MSN she kinda laughed and didn't say me why. Then other online friend caught me making the same mistake next day :/

Like that German tourist who asked directions to "Penevento" instead of Benevento. Locals laughed a lot because pene is ***** in Italian.

The pronunciation in Spanish is very different from that word though. /ís/ acts as a very strong stressed syllable and the previous en- combination is hardly heard AFAIK.

Why would anyone, let alone foreigners, want to go to Benevento?

Isn't there a military cemetery for allied troops nearby?

Not that I know of. The closest one I can think of is the Cassino one.

It has the same meaning (and connotation) in 'Flemish' Dutch, you know... You are aware that our language is the same?

I mean Czech and Slovak are much more similar to each other than Slovenian and Croatian (but I think you understood it correctly).

I don't know about idiom expressions. I know "howdie" is far less used in Belgium, and people write IJ as two letters, not one, hence: Ijs instead of IJs. And some other differences.

People in Belgium also love to split syllables like "e-`le-f" instead of "`elf" which makes it more difficult for me to understand.
