If you search well, hotels of similar quality (not necessarily stars, but those star rankings are flawed) are cheaper in France than Italy.

I'd say about the same. I have stayed in loads, both France and Italy.

That I agree with, although Italy is not much better. But both countries are my favourites when it comes to lunch and dinner. My colleagues enjoy Germany better, but they are Brits and Germans always cook the same. I enjoy breakfasts in Germany and the UK the most.

I know that the highway between San Sebastian and Burgos is 20 €.
But I only took this toll highway twice.
And with a 150 € fine for a speed control just before Burgos (I was at 160 km/h with my small van instead of 120 km/h)I was very in a hurry of course, because breakdown alarm-clock.
Normally, I take the N1 between these cities and you don't lost a lot of time.
Spanish national roads are in very good condition.
Like Irun -Pamplona-Zaragoza, Tunel du Somport-Jaca-Huesca-Lérida-Barcelona.
Many many trucks on some roads but very pleasant.
And a lot of advantages with good price of diesel, restaurants 24/24, very few speed controls, better behaviour of spanish truckers than french.
And about toll prices, theyare the same for a car and a van.
Not the case in France, add 30 to 35 %.
I don't remember the toll price to go from France to Bilbao or Barcelona.
But Spain doesn't have many tolls.Keep up that.
A Vignette is possible in the future to take free highways?
I believe I have heard that somewhere.

The best for Spain and Italy for capuccino.

Some of the best breakfast I had in hotels were actually in Hungary (near the Austrian border). Large variety of all kind of foods and fruits to choose from. German breakfasts are good too. But coffee in Germany usually sucks.

Hmm. I make sure I get into Austria before I eat. There is a really nice Autogrill not far over the border from Hungary and Slovakia.

Best place for breakfast is Austria, we always stop at Rosenberger. Motorway service station restaurants are usually horrible all around Europe (especially Slovakia, I think Road UK can prove that) but Austria really is an exception.

Yes, Rosenberger and Landzeit are really nice. I find UK services the worst. Not a lot of roadside restaurants in Holland, but AC Restaurants does really nice Chinese food. France is the best to me, when it comes to eating.

Anywhere with Marché, be it in Switzerland, Slovenia or somewhere else.

what the prices look like? i remember this winter awfully high prices at Oldtimer at Guntramsdorf rest area before Wien. really awfully high. and horrible coffee.
Autogrill rules. the prices are not low, but anything they offer to eat or dring is superb.
