I'm hoping to be able to do something interesting - Montreal? New England? Chicago? in September or October.

If I was in the USA, I would drive all the way down to Arizona or Florida.

Yes sir!

I went to my parents who were camping near Saint-Brieuc in Bretagne (don't butcher that nice word with Brittanny! ) I drove to it in one day, did a sight-seeing trip along the coast the next, a tour de Bretagne the third day, a cross-country drive to Paris the fourth day and now back to Zwolle today.

Monday, clinching A29, A84 & N12

Wednesday: clinching N12 & N156. My main objective was to photograph the new Pont de Térénez, the largest curved cable-stayed bridge in the world.

Pont de Térénez:

More photos later.

Thursday: clinching some more autoroutes I haven't driven, including the entire N156, entire A85 and entire A19. I have now also clinched the entire A5 as I hadn't driven A5 west of Sens yet. The Eprunes toll plaza is H-U-G-E. I drove Salbris - Orléans via ex-RN20 (including a drive straight through the center of Orléans).

Friday: time to spare, so I went toll free via N2. About 7.5 hour drive for 650 km.

There's probably a misunderstanding about this.

There is a tolerance, automatically calculated when producing the fine, due to protect the citizen from the machines' mistakes.
The rule is:
- up to 100 km/h you'll speed will be calculated as -5 km/h
- over 100 km/h it's -5%

Nowadays radars' setup is very precise, so the probability of mistakes is pretty low; this actually means that any driver gets an automatical discount on his speed.

If you get fined for 92, it means you were going 97, which then means your tacho was showing 100-102 (some are more precise, others are totally wrong).
My Passat's tacho is a pity, it says 61 when I'm doing 55 (by GPS)...

The most silly thing in the Italian system is that the 5% rule applies even to the "Tutor" average speed calculation, which is of course error-free since it's based on fixed points

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

Marchionne means never having to say you're sorry.

Due to Photobucket f*cking up, most images won't be visibile in my old posts. If you need anything specific, please write me.

With the 150th anniversary of the Civil War now under way (it was from 1861 to 1865), there are places in the South I'd like to see. But I'd do that in the winter, to get a break from the weather.

Well, it is "Brittany" in English. :-P

I have a Michelin road map from the 80s - 200 series French regions - labeled on one side "Bretagne/Brittany" and on the other "Bretagne/Bretanje." I always assumed "Bretanje" was the Dutch.

I should have asked you to verify the pronunciation of "Saint-Brieuc" while you were there; I once heard an American Tour de France commentator pronounce it without the C, but an American Tour de France commentator is not necessarily reliable on French pronunciation (depends where he's getting his information) and I've never found a dictionary that could tell me how it's pronounced. That's really what comes to mind when I hear about Saint-Brieuc, because I'm weird that way.

As far as I know the "c" in Saint-Brieuc is ommitted when you pronounce it. It's signed as Sant-Brieg at Breton signs. All signs west of Saint-Brieuc - Vannes are bilingual, except for the N-roads.

omg, really! if i have counted well, it has incredible 47 lanes!
i dodn't know that it was so large, i always thought that Saint Arnault toll plaza was the largest in France with 38 lanes. however, the covered area is similar with Eprunes.
it is probably the larges in EUrope (i thought it was Granollers in Spain, but it has only 36 lanes)

I only count 43 lanes there. But again, I also thought the Saint Arnault was the largest toll plaza, but Eprunes is larger!

And Chris is not the only one that makes detours for clinch a road: Once I went driving to Zaragoza (don't butcher that nice word with Saragossa! ) and I left the city on the Madrid road only to clinch the Northern part of Z-40 (The part that is multiplexed with E90).

That makes sense, thanks!

Now I'm just wondering what everyone was doing online at around 4 am

It happened to me once! I thought it was impossible that someone could post live images of a sunny day in Chicago at 22:41 CEST! . Then I remembered Chicago is 7 hours behind us.
