I've already driven on it before, and I was alone, so no one cared about this little detour, and wat if I may not have any other chance to go on that road again? So why not?

Yes he is, he had an accident with his hands in a pressmachine at the end of April, he had a second operation 2 days ago, but now everything seems to be good.

Have a nice trip there! At least you are watching scenic places, while I'm in an industry area. But tomorrow we might go to the Auto & Technik MUSEUM SINSHEIM, and on Sunday maybe to Frakfurt.

While such a salary cut is huge for the people who have to deal with it, I really don't understand why such a low-tech job paid an astounding $ 65,000. This is a student's job that should pay like $ 8 - 10 an hour.
Do you know that he was a toll-taker as opposed to some sort of executive or supervisor? (But it wouldn't surprise me to hear someone who'd been manning a toll booth for 20 years was making that much: they're probably unionized.)

The Legislature apparently didn't consider the cost of living in setting the minimum wage either. But that's typical.

On Tollroadsnews it says the base pay for toll collectors was reduced from $ 65,000 to $ 49,500. And yes it's unionized, which substantially increases personnel cost, which is also cited as one of the reasons of cost overruns in large projects and the recent bankruptcy of some cities.

Things like this cause the rift between the government and "the people". While government employers have over-the-top luxury salaries, benefits and pensions, "joe the plumber" can barely make a living.

Have fun, if you do; hopefully it won't be too hot. I did this trip the other day. It's a classic Alpine road trip in Slovenia, but I haven't driven between Bovec and Logatec in a long time.

A question to Dutch speakers. How do you pronounce your fantastic swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo's surname?

in that area you could find many interesting stone bridges on the old Austro.hungarian roads that used to connect Karlovac with seaside. also, beside the road (more precisely along D23) you can find interesting fountains built in that period, which are still in function. i have a plan to pass whole D23 by bike this summer, but i am not sure if i am ready to do it.

However, I often see people shaking the pump inside the tank after refuelling. If a drop of 1ml (1cm3) comes out you can save €0,0017 (if it's 1,7€/l).

Oh, ok. Thats what the media do. From a database make a supercomputer. Although such a database used on the fly basis should have some computational power behind itself, dont you think ?

He has just 15 posts, so most likely he's just a troll. Now he's saying "ok smart guys... those competing in formula 1 are idiots for "cutting" the curves". I'm not going to argue with him anymore.

I also do that, but not to save up some money, but because if I won't do it those drops of fuel will fall on my car's body making it dirty. I like to keep my car clean

The problem with unionized work in US for blue-collar functions is that it is stuck in a 1930s mentality. I'm not in favor of jobs that make people working full time still need welfare, but there is some terrible wrong when:

(1) base salaries are completely out-of-reality with the labor market

(2) time lapsed in the job position is the most important if not the single factor determining pay rises (I find strange that someone should earn more for having been doing something for 20 years instead of 2 years when 6 months give virtually all on-job experience one might need)

(3) people can't be fired without a legal process more complicated than a divorce for functions that are not politically or institutionally sensible, but normal administrative/technical tasks only

(4) arcane work rules are in place to solely guarantee the need to employ more people

Stuck with that mentality, unions gave a huge boost to destroy entire economic sectors in US.
