But if you know them, and you think they're American, it IS a problem. And the twitters did not ask "Who the f* is that tall bearded guy in red jersey?" but "Why do they play for Spain?".
To tell you the truth, I didn't know that, for example, Joakim Noah was French and I'm a big fan of the Chicago Bulls where Noah plays. I don't really watch Olympic basketball, and never really cared enough to research his nationality. I just think he's a decent player and, apparently, a nice guy.

There's a lot of stupid people out there - and these girls are not very bright, as they could have simply googled it instead of asking on Twitter - but it's not a particularly smart display to call an entire nation "dumb" because some girls on Twitter didn't know the Gasol brothers were Spanish.

I mean it.
I fully agree. (unless it's for fun of course) but this is a typical and stupid American bashing attempt

I'm 1,68 m tall (or 5 feet 6 in) and never got interested in basketball for more than obvious reasons.

Jeremy Clarkson can get away with it, but (1) he's funny about it, (2) I like to assume he doesn't really mean it (and he says that sort of thing about everyone) and (3) most of what he says can apply to him as well and he must realize it. He's sort of a walking stereotype himself, really, but I think that's his shtick, as we say over here in American pseudo-Yiddish.

Not only do I know Poland has beaches, I know where Huesca and Zaragoza are. I'm about as international as it's possible to be when you're in a large country with oceans on two sides and don't have limitless resources for travel. I'll assume CNGL understands that, was trying to be funny and didn't really mean it. :-)

Nobody is safe with Jeremy Clarkson, including his fellow Brits. But he is well traveled, and likes to grind axes. A bit like me really... But I love Europe and I love the USA. Same as Jeremy...

My synchronicity again. Yesterday I was searching for a proper translation of the Slovenian word "naselje" (settlement, but within a town, so more like a neighbourhood), so I was searching in Wikipedia as well and looked at this article (to then click the English version). Do you notice anything?

The fact that it says Human settlement?

Exactly, Key Gompa, which happens to be today's banner (which is fantastic, btw). I've never heard of the place before.

Just read in the paper that the new Audi A8 is about to come out with a digital rear view mirror.

Bad news for women who like to do make-up in a car.

What the f. is a digital rear view mirror when it's at home?
