Meanwhile, this weekend, I took the road less travelled by -- and that has made all the difference.

This what I get in a Madrid - Alicante via A-3 E-901 + A-31 (+/- 440km).

Sometimes in my every day i can get 3.7l/100km or less, but, without crossing the barrier "80~100" km/h, and without entering the city.

As usual, my average consumption in a normal week starts in 4.8L/100km to 5.5 L/100km.

Every few weeks I can change cars (don't own a car myself, but use rental cars rented on my company contract), hence I was able to compare my fuel consumption (mostly driving on the highway or interstate). During the morning hours I tried to push consumption down as most as I could, using the efficiency mode, trying not to accelerate to hard
and never going above 130km/h.

Audi A4 2.0 TDI Avant (140hp): 5,4l / 100km
Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro (245hp): 5,9l / 100km
Mercedes Benz E220 CDI (5-speed auto): 6,2l / 100km

Mercedes Benz C220 CDI: 4,7l / 100km
BMW 530dA xDrive: 6,1l / 100km

Volkswagen Passat 1.4 TSI Variant: 6,3l / 100km
Mercedes Benz C180 CGI: 7,9l / 100km (guess the tire pressure was off)
BMW 520dA Touring: 5,4l / 100km (love this engine the most, big powerful car yet quite good fuel economy)

What do you think about this camera to video record roadtrips?
http://replayxd.com/cameras/replay-xd1080-camera/
It costs 299€, but as I've seen the box has no suction mount, so that also has to be bought.

There some videos available to see how it does (Google, Youtube, Vimeo).

I think that's way too expensive. If you have an iPhone/Android, you can use that to record video trips, with decent quality. All you need is a decent mount that mounts to the glass, and a car charger.

Or, alternatively, you can try something like the Kodak PlaySport which is an excellent device with high-quality video (720p at 60 frames/s, 1080p at 30 frames/s).

Italian writing does not include accented upper-case vowels. Those can be found in French, and any computer can manage them, but are not used in Italian.
That's because the historical Italian handwriting was designed aiming to keep a constant maximum height of all the symbols, for style reasons: accented upper-case vowels would have ruined the harmony of the text.
This happened even before accents were used.

That's why "" doesn't exist in the Italian keyboard layout
E, with an accent, is not but E'.

Even if PCs and printers can perfectly handle them, those characters still create problems to graphic devices with fixed text height (LCDs): the character is displayed but with an actual height problem.

An apostrophe is not an accent - and "" is extremely common...

I must admit I don't understand. E' is wrong. is right. There's not even to discuss about this.

In this case you are free to search for an Italian keyboard including ""

This graphical rule exist and it's not my opinion, it's an historical fact. Its origins lie in handwriting aesthetical reasons, and was then continued in typewriters due to the fixed height matter, and then ASCII came and ' became a standard character.
I'm not trying to prove if it's right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

If you ask me, I'd say it's an outdated rule, but in fact I do think the whole accent things is an outdated issue. 90% of our accents are useless, since everyone knows how to pronounce common words; who would go wrong reading "lunedi" or "cioe"? They may seem wrong, but that's just a matter of habitude.
Then there is a bunch of words which can be read in different ways and there's where accents are needed.
But the whole matter would require an official revision of the language before being applied.

But then again, ' or or are just graphical signs, you can assign them any meaning you want, as long as who you're talking to understands you.
What we consider right today would have been considered crap two centuries ago... I'm pretty much open to language evolutions

I drove over 57 kilometers of dams today

Both in the Netherlands, the 28 km N302 dam from Lelystad to Enkhuizen and the 29 km - and more famous - "afsluitdijk" or enclosure dam between Den Oever and Zurich.

There's a weird habit in the Netherlands to call some dams "dikes" while they are in fact dams. They separate two bodies of water, not water and dry land.

Well, the motorway, lay-by's, the monument, petrol station and that camping site on the side of the dike is sort of dry land...
