More than 220 rescued from ice floes off Latvian coast

This is crazy... More than two hundred people floating away as the ice cap broke off from mainland in Latvia

More info and video

Typical fishermen. Every year lots of people get stuck on an ice sheet and need to be rescued be it on the sea or on a lake or river.

That road was built by Anglo-Americans just after WWII between Sistiana and Villa Opicina in the Free Territory of Trieste. It was double-purpose: road and airstrip in case of war (the iron curtain was close and I-YU relations back then weren't exactly friendly). This explains the exagerate width for a 1+1 road (especially for 1940s standards). This road was classificated as SS202 after this piece of land became part of Italy in 1954. Most of it was upgraded to motorway standards in the 80s (RA13) but this part still survives as was originally built and it's numbered SP35. The SS202 number is now assigned to the southern Trieste bypass that also opened in the 80s.
interesting, I must go drive there once.

No, Trieste doesn't look very detailed, but the rest of the map (it's a map of Slovenia) is actually pretty good. Sometimes I come across a map that I'd just throw in garbage right away.

Especially in Moravia and Silesia, Prague has been snow-free all day long, but now it snows there too. What's interesting though is todays situation in Hungary, snowy weather around 0°C in the northwest and temperatures around 16°C in the southwest...

I'm a beer aficionado. I have never heard of this beer before though, but I drank it today. Tasty exotic beer brought to me from abroad.

The same at Polish side of Silesia. I shoveled my driveway thrice.

The USA is weird in not having an Easter Monday as a national holiday, like virtually all western countries.

Yellow = Easter Monday.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!
