Personally I don't like the shard cladding, I love the tower but not the cladding, if I see a poor quality cladded tower in britain, I will admit it. So please sont take offence. There are many poor quality and material towers in paris, acknowledging it isn't un patriotic, if French forumers admit the problem of poor quality cladding in la defense, you can lobby the developers to use better cladding and materials

What do I care what others say? It's my opinion. I'd rather be laughed at than conform to another opinion that I don't agree with simply because it's more popular.
Also it's amazing how so many people here are such experts on the 'cheapness' of certain claddings.

I think that at the moment, if you add all the 100m+ towers in London and paris, paris has twenty more, mostly commieblocks, and la defense, but that will be wiped out in a year or two with all the new towers u/c in London, from then on London will have more towers than paris and its lead will get bigger and bigger every month, so I don't see how paris could ever catch London up, London already has more 150m+ than paris
It already has more 200m+ than paris
And more supertalls than paris.
So London is ahead on all fronts, and this doesn't include all the u/c towers in London, or the lead will be much higher.
The only section that paris is ahead of London is 100m+ towers, but London will be ahead of them within the next year or two, then londons lead over Frankfurt and paris will continue to get even bigger and bigger, until London is so far ahead it will be out of reach. London still does have competition, with Moscow and Istanbul, but when it comes to the eu countries, none of them can keep up with London. Instead of resenting londons success, French people should be happy for us because londons success is good for Europe and becomes europe's success.

Also londons towers are not commie blocks, they are office towers and beaughtifull luxury residential towers, and also a lot of student towers are being built. If you took away the commie blocks, how many 100m+ towers would paris have?

So you prefer poor quality cheap cladding and towers instead of high quality cladding, more expensive and better designed towers. You must have a very strange mind, but I will not laugh because you're the same person who thinks that the naff 1980s vision of the future tower in north Korea is the best tower in the world lol, it's a good job you are not an architect

They are not commieblocks. They are pieces of International Style architecture. Shows your knowledge of skyscraper heritage.

Ah yes, resort to ad hominem. Let the rage flow.

Time to get back on topic, this is one of the best designed in la defense, it's a shame it will be hidden by lesser high rises, this one should be out at the front of the cluster

No, I don't get raged in any walk of life, and certainly not on a skyscraper website, this is supposed to be fun, can we please keep it that way. You like this cladding, I and almost every other forumers that isn't French thinks this is poor cladding and the same for many others in la defense, but I see a few are getting recladding, so it might look better in a few years

I've been to paris thankyou very much, and the towers outside la defense are commie blocks, everyone knows that.look at that horrible collection of 1960s commie blocks in France, all exposed concrete cladding, and all the other attributes of commieblocks

D2 is perhaps the most interesting building in the entire La Defense in terms of architecture. But the quality of it's steel frames, class, cladding and other materials are not as good as a similar, original and multi award winning iconic building "The Gherkin" designed by a world class architect Sir Norman Foster.

Am I right in thinking that la defence and paris has three high rises and one mid rise u/c. Paris needs to start building more

I think everyone get your point , stop the flood please

Imo i think D2 is beautifull , and that it's cladd is pretty nice. The final result is very close to the render btw.

My principle is this one: I believe only what I see.
I base myself with my eyes in front of the reality and especially I do not base myself on photos.

You photograph the tower swiss re and according to the luminosity of the day and according to the camera, your eyes will see a different facade.

I judge when I saw it personnaly and never by basing on photos which deceive the eye.

Another notion than you forget:
There is a real quality and a received quality.

i see no cladding quality difference between the towers first and majunga at la defense and the towers in london.

when i see the barbican towers in london ....my god !

and whats the problem with the materials quality ? do yu want to say that london has money and france and paris are poor ?

PARIS has 50 million sqm offices and London 35.
Paris prefers build low rises and campus for its headquarters.
