I have been in Paris early this month and i've talked with a Firefighter that works in the D2 construction site and he told me that the Aurora is going to be dismantled soon.
Any news about the project?

Someone should take some nice, high quality pictures of it before it is gone, there aren't that many.

Yes, Aurore will be dismantled this year, and will be replaced by this nice tower called Air2 (202m): http://www.arcora.com/projets/tour-air2-a-la-defense/

I like this tower, but I liked it better when Norman Foster designed it first and it was called the "Gherkin". It's not an exact copy, but a little too close for comfort, and a little surprising for an area as original and innovative as La Defense.

Well i can understand your misundertanding.

BUT

-The towers are far from being close, exept if you only look the pillars.
-Swiss re has a circular base which give it a "cucumber" form, when D2 has triangular base.
-The top of swiss re is like a peak. The top of D2 will play with it's pillars and will have no clad between.
-It has a smooth cladding with with no external relief (but colors), when D2 will play with relief and create light and shadows.

Overall , i think the clad of swiss re is better. But i really enjoy the triangular shadow/light scheme of D2.

As I said, not identical......but D2 is pretty derivative. It just looks like a pair of giant hands were placed on the Gherkin and pushed it in on two sides. But at least it's derivative of an attractive building and not an ugly one!
