St. Clair

Fall is coming, so here is a set of photos I took last November when the leaves were golden. This neighbourhood is hidden right in the middle of the lower city. Many people don't know about this area. I didn't discover it until last fall, but I'm glad I did.

I'll let the sign say the rest:

Are you talking about the beach? The beach is just turning around in the last couple years. For a long time it was a total dump. Some of the houses in the photos are being renovated right now, some have yet to be fixed.

Some beautiful shots, Flar, and it won't be too long before the leaves are looking like that again. My favourite picture was the house with the hundred Chotzkes in the front yard!

Wow - Thanks Flar! I was planning a trip to Hamilton next weekend to check out the Stinson neighbourhood after seeing your excellent thread a while back and now I will just continue eastward to explore more of Hamilton's incredible neighbourhoods. You continue and amaze with images of areas of Hamilton that I had no idea existed. It is always such a pleasure to explore Hamilton thanks to your incredible pix - good on ya!!

Super-nice Flar! Many people get the wrong impression of Hamilton because they only see it from the Skyway.. the industrial bits. I used to hang out there and I can tell you: Hamiltonians aren't interested in your bullshit, they'll make that quite clear from the outset. It's a great city!

Excellent pictures, once again. The English Tudor-style houses (I think that's the style) look great with the golden leaves. This seems like a classic Hamilton neighborhood.

I see that there's a Delaware Avenue in this neighborhood. More evidence of the legacy of being the first state.

What is the neighborhood in between the St. Clair neighborhood and Wentworth Street?

There is some Tudor Revival in St. Clair, generally the neighbourhood is considered Edwardian (early 1900s). It's supposed to look English and is similar to Westdale (page 5).

St. Clair:

Westdale:

The area west to Wentworth is part of St. Clair, but I highlighted the area with the nicer homes that I covered in the pics. West of Wentworth is Stinson (page 8), east of Sherman Ave. is Blakely, which I sort of covered with The Delta (page 13) since they look similar.
