Ottawa Street, Hamilton

This 1920's commercial district in East Hamilton grew out of the local textile and fabric industry
which manufactured everything from sewing machines to clothing. Today the Textile District is
a thriving shopping area that has found its niche in fabrics, sewing and home decor. It is also
the site of the very first Tim Horton's location.

[B]Site of the first Tim Horton's. It looks a lot like the other 2800. I've shown this before, but how could I not show it again in its proper context?/B]

The pics above were taken in summer 2007. A couple weeks ago I went to Ottawa Street for the first time in a long time, it's looking pretty good. I think some new businesses have opened and there is now a Farmer's Market on Saturdays.

Nice thread, looks like an interesting city, but very segregated...really expensive houses in some areas and rundown houses in another.

Your thread has inspired me to consider starting my own thread, for Delaware. Unlike my "Daily Delaware Photo" thread, I would showcase a new area on every page. I think that there are as many interesting places in Delaware as there are in Hamilton, so it could be successful.

That is often the case in Hamilton. There seems to be more class separation here than in other Canadian cities, but not as much as cities in the US or other parts of the world.

Class was always a big deal in Hamilton as higher skilled workers tried to differentiate themselves from unskilled labourers. Meanwhile, factory owners literally lived in Mansions on the hill.

I'm working on a map showing where each tour was photographed. Eventually each number on the map will be associated with a link to the tour. The map cuts off some suburban areas (I won't be touring those areas )

The map is very helpful. I'm looking forward to the links, or at least the numeric key, which will allow me to really understand Hamilton.
