I disagree here shugs we NEED secularity, the lack thereof is exactly the problem. Many countries have state religions which doesn't mean that their clerics rule the country.
Christianity is state religion in many secular countries.

Down Temporarily

I have taken pagereboot.com down until I can establish proper security to stop it being used for DoS attacks.

don't balme it on islam .turkey is a secular regime and the current governing movement is an islamic one not to mention that the islamic public as well as the political ones are on the constant rise and in my opnion the ones that are protesting violently on the streets are the minority ones . as for people who dream over the come back of the shah era they are only dreaming since that day belongs to the dark face of iran that was truely known for it's corrupt ideology and it's unconditional alliance to the US which fosake him and turned it's back on him once he was overthrown leaving him wondering the world homeless with out shelter nor any one accepting to give him refuge.
i m against any killing of innocent people though in the streets of iran and the president should try to calm down the spirits as for the protestors they should protest with calm after all the results are now been announced and their is not gona be any reverse of the voting so i suggest do not endanger your lives protesting like that when the forces could act very violently. and i hope that peace shall settle soon in the hearts of all iranians do not make the world point the finger at you as uncivilised nation when that is completly false.

It's easy lecturing on lofty ideals (or in your case defeatism) when you're enjoying the beaches and sun of Hawaii. If the Iranian dictatorship is so great, why don't you move there? If you don't want the world pointing fingers at Iran for being uncivilized then take a good look in the mirror first.

It doesn't, but it would be best if it were. And anyway, a true secular state only means that you don't mix government institutions with religion. Freedom of religion and freedom from religion are constituent parts of a secular state.

And it kinda matters if you have a state religion. I'm not saying it really matters at the moment, since there are more pressing issues to deal with, but in the long run, it matters.

In my opinion, the extremists should have the right to express their demented opinions, but on the other hand the sane majority should also have the right to ridicule them. If the population is educated enough, they will not vote for extremists anyway, at least, not in the way that the extremists gain majority. Like you said, they're kept in minority.

You got a lot of support from Italy aswell. I've seen the small Iranian community here in Torino (mostly young students here for university) gathering in a central street to do a sit-in; my girlfriend's roommate was among them, she's from Tehran.

I've seen some videos about live bullets being shot at unnarmed demonstrators: that's a vile, shameful conduct. Ahmadinejad's government it's showing its real face, and cannot last long I hope.

Why hasn't the Army been sent in yet? And when will the strike take place? you gotta do it, every protest movement did it (look at Poland in the '80s, for example).

Take care. really.

@ Sandogh

And what's most astonishing is that these people actually live in FREE countries. Sure, they're not perfect countries, cause no country is, but they're free.

I guess it's easy to respect Ahmadinejad and say "oh, the IRI is great" when you don't actually have to fear holding hands with you girlfriend in public or ridiculing a so-called "supreme leader".

People like apocalypse2012 wouldn't know totalitarianism if it hit them in the head.

Every visit to fars news makes balatarin.com slower. They should plan in advance for hacking and stop with DoS attacks

Tehran police chef says police not given ok to use firearms

Posted: 12:43 PM ET
TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) — Police have not been given permission to use firearms in confronting protesters, Tehran Police Chief Maj. Gen. Azizollah Rajabpour told Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency Sunday.

http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06...-use-firearms/

Police have not used firearms on the public, he said, and allegations to the contrary are false and “spread by those who want to muddy the waters,” Mehr said.

Canadian Singer Johnny Maudlin
sings for Neda

اين آهنگ توسط يک مرد کانادايي
Johnny Maudlin
براي ندا خوانده شد

Neda was a young girl
She would not wear the hijab
She walked out on the streets of Tehran
To join the madding crowd
She felt a burning fire in her chest
And her blood began to flow
You will not defeat the people
When their lust for freedom grows
Down down go the concrete statues
Watch the faceless soldiers run
You will not defeat the people
When they learn that freedom's fun
Neda was a young girl
Her eyes were black as coal
She walked out on to the streets of Tehran
To take back some control
Watch her father with her face in his hands
Screaming out into the sky
You will not defeat the people
When they learn that they can fly
(First verse again...)
You will not defeat the people
When it's freedom that they know
You will not defeat the people
Crying Neda in the streets
You will not defeat the people
Crying Neda in their sleep

It says .. many flee the compulsory military service to avoid beating up the people.

A really sad situation in your country I heard that its even dangerous to upload videos and pictures to internet, to call abroad or writing reports in internet portals. But i you wont go to the streets and protest, they will arrest later every single person who was on the streets and execute much of them.

You must stay strong and fight on. Also the western countries shouldnt look longer away, they must act now, not just with words. I hope all the best for the Iranian nation, God bless them...

Thank you, your country is just one of the best examples, you have no oil but your economy is way better, since the government is not corrupt like Iran's.
