It's not an artificial ruin. The church was hit by a bomb 1945.

Here you can see the interior of the church, when it was still in the park of Hohenheim Palace. In the early 19th century the building was transferred into the park of Monrepos Palace.

Looked like one of the typical park ruin examples to me, blimey.

Anyway, that's probably "better" than having the ruin right in the center of the city.
