Beautiful. Why do Northern and Central Germans feel Bavaria is so different from them?
I didn't notice a striking diversity between the two parts. Both equally beautiful and efficient.

It's more the other way round. We Bavarians sort of have a strong feeling of being different from the North and living in the most beautiful part of Germany, Europe or even the World.
Btw there is a historical point of view too. Bavarians say they live in the oldest state of Central Europe and were occupied by the Prussians in the 19th century.I would say it's mainly about character. The southerners are said to be more easy going, more relaxed while the northeners are said to be more serious, and in general I would agree on that. The South is Catholic, the North is Protestant, which may have an influence, too. And finally, being from other parts of Germany Bavarian tradition and dialects may seem to be strange. I know a lot of students from the North that were shocked to see the first time a beer tent full of Bavarians in Lederhosen and which aren't able to understand the locals. ![]() Ok, now its tiem for a "Preiß" to tell his/her point of view!

Passau, Bavaria. My university city in Eastern Bavaria, on the Austrian boarder is known for one of the most beautiful historic centres of the country and it's three rivers (from top to bottom: Inn, Donau (Danube) and Ilz).

One more, the famous Stephansdom (St. Stephen cathedral) in the back. It has the biggest organ in the world.

Regarding the North - South, East - West, Prussia - Bavaria Issues: IMO they are completely overrated by foreigners. Overall Germany is a VERY homogenous country regarding people, culture and lifestyle.
