No doubt a mix of Higher Load factors and bigger aircraft.

Another respectable increase in domestic pax with an increase in charter too for the first time in ages. Hopefully will now get back to 20m pax by the end of the year on at least the total passengers figure.

However the MAT for cargo throughput has dropped below 100,000 tonnes for the first time in many years.

I'm sure I read a posters view point that Flybe's operations would have a big impact on numbers...and lo, domestic travel is booming again! Contrary to some experts in here at the time!

Its good yes so long as they pay, as long as theirs no repeat of Ryanairs threat that unless they were actually paid by the airport for each passenger they carried they would walk.... came back with the tail between their legs.

20 million pax looks possible within the financial year but not the calendar year. 19.6M is the relevant figure for November, not 19.8. The CAA and industry go by terminal passengers rather than total including transit, otherwise Heathrow's 70M becomes more like 100M. Transit has never been a big part of Manchester's traffic but that could grow with FlyBe and other code-share and interline arrangements.

I don't think that is true.

Passengers in, passengers out. Transit are included in most used figures.

You may well be right and I wrong. Transit and Transfer are terms which can be confused. I think the CAA don't count Transit but count Transfer - those changing flights within 24 hours, as two passenger movements. MAN's small number of Transits must be PIA going through to the USA and perhaps the odd transatlantic charter shared with Gatwick. It would be interesting to know what level of Transfer there is at MAN.

Correct Roverman, transit aren't counted, but transfer are. Ultimately every arrival and every boarding are counted, so someone travelling IOM -MAN - FRA would be two passengers.

A terminal passenger is a passenger joining or leaving an aircraft at the reporting airport. A passenger travelling between two reporting airports is counted twice, once at each airport. A passenger who changes from one aircraft to another, carrying the same flight number (change of gauge) is treated as a terminal passenger, as is an interlining passenger.

A transit passenger is a passenger who arrives at and departs from a reporting airport on the same aircraft which is transiting the airport. Each transit passenger is counted once only and not both on arrival and on departure.

Yes BHX5DME, thanks for that interesting work, market share is an accurate measure of real performance and it looks like long term structural decline, at least the decline seems to have been arrested. The 1994 share would 34m today

You would never take the peak as the `norm'. Looking at the figures Manchester is at the bottom of the 30 year range and the median figure would be c10%.

Therefore, since Manchester has not moved location you would/could make a case for saying 25-30m would be the true position? Something Ryan & Easy are aware of and would look to expand it very quickly?

Time will tell.

Just gave it a go, only seems to be available Moscow to Manc, you can only book the return leg. If you try try to book a return, the system won't let you book Manc > Moscow prior to Moscow > Manc. Major bargain though, £37 Moscow to Manc!

A bumper November for Manchester Airport
December 10, 2012

Manchester Airport enjoyed another bumper month in November, with year-on-year passenger numbers rising nearly nine per cent.
The launch of easyJet's services to Tel Aviv contributed to the surge, which saw the number of passengers rise from 1.19m in November 2011 to 1.3m last month.
Scheduled international routes enjoyed the biggest rise, up 11.35 per cent to 887,112, while domestic and charter services saw increases of 4.5 and 3.2 per cent respectively.
However, freight volumes slumped 13.13 per cent to 8,446 tonnes, compared with 9,723 tonnes in November last year.
Andrew Harrison, chief operating officer at Manchester Airports Group, said: “We’re in a traditionally quieter period in our winter season yet the passenger numbers remain in a good position.
“We saw the start of new services during the month such as easyJet’s route to Tel Aviv and the confirmation of its Moscow service for 2013.
“Coming so soon after the significant announcement from Ryanair of its expansion for summer 2013, then we’re pleased about the strength of the offer here at Manchester going into the new year.”

Air Livery now has the contract to paint up the Lufthansa long haul fleet, after the Lufthansa Technik paint facility was closed at Hamburg.

The first Lufthansa B747-400 arrives on Sunday 16th, with the A330, A340 and B747 fleet passing through here eventually.

Air Livery has been picked not only for their expertise, but also the frequent Lufthansa flights back to Frankfurt, Hamburg and Dusseldorf from Manchester, which means flight crews can be re-positioned between their home base and the paint facility quickly.
