With the 8th based aircraft, Easyjet have also upped the frequency on Geneva (9 weekly in summer now with the addition of a Sunday flight), Malta (now 6 weekly with the addition of a Tuesday flight), Skiathos (now 2 weekly and not even launched yet) and Paphos (now daily).

Ryanair are basing their 6th aircraft at MAN.

Due to this, the timetable has some hefty increases, such as Alicante rising from 4 flight per week to 11 flights per week.
Other increases were noted, but cannot remember them all.

You would never take the peak as the `norm'. Looking at the figures Manchester is at the bottom of the 30 year range and the median figure would be c10%.

Therefore, since Manchester has not moved location you would/could make a case for saying 25-30m would be the true position? Something Ryan & Easy are aware of and would look to expand it very quickly?

Time will tell.

Indeed, and looking at the last 6 years they are roaring back as I presume T5 came on stream and the economic crisis impacted.

It will be more interesting to see how Manchester's share of the NW airmarket has performed over the last six years? A real battering until 24months ago, then a massive leap as all the regions growth and the decline at LJL was mopped up. With the news on Ryanair above the figures should continue to rocket upwards, with 25-30m being a natural ceiling based on market share/impact of the big 2?

Yes, I agree that that would be an interesting stat. Perhaps throw in East Midlands and Brum too?

It Is interesting because the airport claims it has the same number of people in its catchment area as Heathrow and more than the other London airports.

TAP Portugal doing very well at Manchester.

Now confirmed, 10 weekly to Lisbon next summer:

A319 Daily but A321 used on Sundays, so an increase of over 50 seats in itself.

Flybe have announced a new route to Dan Helder in Holland. It is a 1 stop service via Norwich and operates daily.

Thought I would dig out the CAA stats. The three recessions stand out:

1980's stagnant
1990's stagnant
2000's slump.

Can we theorise that once the `normal' service is resumed, 30m is very doable within a decade?

If you have another airport you want to compare with, let me know, it is relatively easy exercise to dig-out.

With our geographic location, I cannot find a sane reason why we cannot aspire to Munich's level of growth. For every argument they are in the centre of Europe, you can say they have massive competition from: Zurich, Milan etc to draw numbers away. We are uncluttered by this and have a huge catchment area, which until Brum's runway extension opens is incapable of handling all aircraft types either!
