Hello ;

I’m architecture student in France and I discovered this very interesting project few days ago. I would like share with you my point of view about this architecture.

First, the environmental approach is the main objective in the project, which articulate the building typologies. Vernacular architecture has inspired modern design of those buildings: by the colours and traditional facades (the moucharabieh for example) and also by facades orientation, street typologies … Those elements are able to reducing the heat input, moreover are aesthetic. In other words, architects reinterpret traditional knowledge and architecture to design their own building.

To my mind, referring to a context to build new building is the main point that can give sense in the contemporary architecture, like Masdar. We often forget that vernacular architecture has also improved solutions to reducing heat or cold input, by traditional technologies. Architect must consider this first, instead of thinking with new materials and technology systems.

With a very nice architecture, and ambitious environmental performances, Masdar seems the future of the architecture around the world. Besides, architects said that it will be an example for new construction…

To conclude, interesting project, which combine design and environment!

I doubt this is for Masdar City in Abu Dhabi. I don't think turning a desert into a lush jungle in the first pic would be sustainable at all.
