It will look great. Good that so much attention is paid to the public space, and not just the towers.
At street level around the low building, it looks like there are some windowless walls though. That would not be my design choice.

NEW YORK | One Manhattan West | 303m | 995ft | 67 fl | U/C

Quote:
Yesterday I went up those stairs in the picture above to the plaza that will connect all the buildings of the Manhattan West complex (It's not open but there was nothing obstructing the stairs so I moseyed on up there)

Wow, great find and great photos! It's exciting to see how much progress has been made not just on the towers but on the plaza and pedestrian experience. I agree with the above sentiment that this and the Hudson Yards together will be an experience unlike anything we've seen in NY before.

Did you get a sense that there will be enough access to the plaza from the streets below? The renders don't seem to indicate much; particularly on the South end of the project. Seems on that side, there's just the one narrowish staircase you used, and one interior staircase on the SW corner of 5 MW. And as Eric pointed out, there are a few long blank or deactivated walls at street level.

My concern is that without ample, wide, obvious places to ascend, this elevated plaza will fail to capture much of the natural foot traffic coming from HY and the High Line. That's why I wish they'd considered making that SW corner of 5 MW into a grand staircase of some kind (if not a bridge over the avenue providing direct access from the High Line.)

My sentiments exactly. While the the plaza will overall have a lot of accessibility to the grid (access points noted in red below), much of that accessibility is oriented to the east instead of the west (which will arguably have more foot traffic). They would do well to make the entrance at the SW corner into a grander staircase to lead people from HY and the High Line.

Something like this in LA (but in the same architectural vernacular of the Manhattan West complex), right on the corner, would be so much more inviting.

It's really an oversight I don't understand, which makes me think that something in the logistics impeded it. Or maybe after Manhattan West observes the success of Hudson Yards, they will have no option but to put more effort into accessibility from the west

They are almost ready for new steel now that the core has risen high enough.

I guess that this tower will rise very quickly into the sky. :-)

Yeah but that was planned. Since the base has no outer ring of columns, they had to do major concrete pourings at the base, so the structural integrity that exists now can allow them to go up with the core and the rest of the superstructure.

Accenture, Google, Scripps checking out Manhattan West

Quote:
Accenture, Google and Scripps are among the companies now checking out the availabilities at Manhattan West.

That’s good news for Brookfield’s new 2.216-square-foot tower at One Manhattan West, which still has 1.3 million square feet to rent from the 6th to part of the 23rd floors, and again from 46th to the top 67th floor.

The mid-range floors have already attracted law firm Skadden Arps with 610,793 square feet on 28 through 45 and the National Hockey League with 160,625 square feet on the 23rd to 27th floors along with its retail store at the base.

It is likely, however, that both Google and the television station portions of Scripps are more attracted to the fairy-dust transformation of the 2.15 million-square-foot Brutalist industrial-design 450 W. 33 St. into the more cheery, glass and tech friendly 5 Manhattan West.

Yeah, hard to see Google moving into a skyscraper. 5MW is a good fit, especially since it's not too far from their current NYC headquarters in Chelsea.

It seems this one is going to grow quickly, such as Salesforce tower.
The core has grown five floors during the month of april.

So glad this one is finally growing. I was worried it was on hold given the anemic growth these past few months.

It was clear that the base will take ages to be finished. Nothing unusual happened here.

Indeed, one should never take a break from SSC because back in the day a user here explained it in detail while it wouldn't grow upwards for two or three months. Same with Central Park Tower, I think it was thejacko5 who explained it in both threads.
