Construction worker falls to death after platform collapses

A construction worker died after falling several stories when the platform he was on collapsed at a work site in Hudson Yards Monday night, officials said.

The 62-year-old hardhat was standing on wooden planks on the 16th floor at 401 Ninth Ave. near 33rd Street when they gave way and he plummeted down to the sixth floor, cops said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The site is slated to be a skyscraper called 1 Manhattan West as part of a large-scale real-estate development program by Brookfield Property Partners, with a projected completion in 2020.

I presume that the steel that is up above the podium area is for the tower, but why is it only being assembled in one side of the core?

That's the Maritime Hotel. It has a nautical theme. Cool pic; looks like it was taken from the old Port Authority building on 8th Ave.

Don't quote me on this, but it MIGHT be a test fit of a few floors to see how the steel fits with the core. Making sure everything joins and works properly before doing the entire floor.

Could that be a Moynihan Station crane to start work @ the Farley Building?

Edit: Looked closer and that red crane looks much too far away to be at the Farley Building.
