Not too much appears visually different in the last few weeks. But there's a flurry of activity on the site daily.

I understand this site is very hard to see, before the towers rise.

First the platform anyway. Towers are supposed to rise on top?

The towers are ready to rise if they get a tenant. They will rise on terra firma located on either side of the platform. A plaza will be created upon the platform.

As the platform gets filled in the Amtrak and NJTransit trains entering Penn Station from the west will be totally underground. the experience will be similar to that of the LIRR & AMTRAK trains entering from the east: a dive under a river (the Hudson or East River) and then trundling underground w/o any view of the sky.

So the open sky views illustrated in funkyskunk2's photo below will disappear. The photo below does have a small snippet of sky seen under the 10th Ave viaduct in the photo's bottom left, BUT that will disappear also when the Hudson Yards's East Rail Yard platform is built starting in '14? '15?

Considering that these towers will be rising from a squarish based on that narrow strip of land, they will have a relatively small footprint for 2m+ sf towers. This indicates that their height should exceed 300m.

Do you think the chances of an interesting design is good? Or are economical boxes guaranteed?

Wow! your friend has the best seat in the house to watch this and Related's projects rise. You must go over to your friends house more and take loads of pics. Maybe if you offer to buy him brunch every weekend for delivery he would not mind you being there for the next 4-5 years? I dunno just a thought.

I certainly hope so.. Right now those massing models looks like Two 7 WTC towers. Does anyone know who the lead architect will be from SOM? Will it be David Childs?

SO the heights in the topic title are not definitive yet?

I don't think that anything about this project is definitive. In fact, I still firmly believe that, other than the rental tower, nothing will happen here for quite some time.

Two years ago, I said that Brookfield can't compete against Related's project and wouldn't sign a single tenant until the two towers at the HY were largely full, and many people disputed that.

These towers will compete against a lot more other projects that are better.

Preparations for the impending lift! The process is becoming clear. This is definitely the first of two beams, as shown in Brookfield's video.

Definitely. You heard about 107 W 57th having a 31.4 : 1 height-to-width ratio, didn't you Kanto? That's what I'll be focusing my attention on.
