NO direct connect in the short therm

And leave 450 W33rd Street alone ... I like it.
The MW public specs will lead directly to the east side of 450 W 33 via a platform or bridge over the Dyer Ave roadway to the Lincoln Tunnel. Once At 450 there will be either a passageaay through the center to 10th Ave OR a passegway in the southside of 450 that leads to a podium on the NE corner of 10th & 31 st. You'll have to walk down from the podium to street level 10th/31st > from there you'll have to cross 10th to get to the west side of 10th & ~30th & from there climb up up to the HL (see recent HL 10th Ave spur rendering below).

image hosted on flickr

I have not seen any current renderings that show any stairs/elevator down from the east side of the 10th Ave spur to the east side of 10th Ave. The render is looking down west form the ~middle of 30th & east of 10th Ave.

Thehighlineorg.org blog that provided the render above http://www.thehighline.org/blog/2013...the-rail-yardsalso states:

Quote:
Friends of the High Line and the City of New York are working to open the High Line at the Rail Yards as quickly as possible, with a goal of a full public opening in late 2014. The Spur is expected open to the public one to two years after the opening of the rest of the rail yards section of the High Line. The cost of the High Line at the Rail Yards is estimated to be $76 million. Friends of the High Line has committed to raise $36 million from private philanthropic contributions as part of its Campaign for the High Line. The Bloomberg administration and New York City Council have allocated a total of $11 million in capital funding to the project. As part of the development of Hudson Yards, Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group will contribute $29.2 million toward the capital construction of the High Line at the Rail Yards, as well as additional funding for the park’s ongoing maintenance.
The Campaign for the High Line is a major fundraising effort that supports construction of the High Line at the Rail Yards and other capital projects on the High Line, as well as an endowment for the entire park’s future maintenance and operations.
So MAYBE in late 2015 or early 2016 you'll be able to walk the path I outlined above & check out the spur. That's based upon the the MW platform & 450 renovation being finished in in 27 months (from ??)

AND, in honor of 450 W 33rd as a conversation, piece I'v posted in this 12/5 hardcoreshutterbug photo of the est side of 450 & and part of the MW launcher, crane and precast sections. tkane form 31 st looking NW.

Note the trees and the the roof of 450...

Thanks for posting that link. Scumonkey has photos taken from not-your-usual vantage points outside the MW work site.

Too bad there isn't access to higher resolution versions of the posted photos, for example:

Good snowy morning to ya. Took some pics on my way to work. From above the site looks pretty much the same:

This pic reveals some progress, though it's hard to see. The segments currently on the launcher have been threaded together!

In 10 year's time, this view will be remarkable.

Thanks for the photos: yesterday was crappy weather.

It does look like they are pulling/pushing the individual segments together.

here's a March '11 photo (looking ~SE) showing some of the RR infrastructure that the gantry and it's foundations/track will have to work amongst. I think NJ Transit & Amtrak uses a portion of the south side of the pit for storage & there is at least one track under 31st street north sidewalk

Jim Henderson/wikipedia http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...9th_Av_jeh.jpg

IMHO, if we're looking for easily observable progress, I'd go with 10 Hudson Yards tower/Culture Shed concrete&rebar construction or the work in the East Rail Yard itself.
Excavation/support/excavation progress in the tunnel box pit should be fast paced until they get down to bedrock. I also believe they will actually start drilling for the platform caisson foundations next month. And that should be easily visible due to the use of the existing Bauer drills and/or their special drill on RR wheels.

The first span will be installed on Sunday. The pier segments have been placed on the ends and the prestressing is under way.

awesome! I'll be away for the holidays, otherwise I'd consider traveling to the site to watch. Do you know what time? I read that it was a specific two hour slot every week.

ILNY of SSP has posted various Manhattan West photos today.
The one below seems to show a batch of people observing/photographing some event cable related:

They are tensioning on of the tendons-you can see the jack on the lower left. So I guess the span was not placed yesterday.

Thanks, I noticed the cable bundles were different, but I han't picked out the jack in the lower left.

ILNY @ SSP pages posted those pictures today,
http://skyscraperpage.com/forum/show...postcount=1003, without a link to the original flickr photos, but he did reply back that they were taken Saturday

Foundations for the support steel should be relatively straightforward since bedrock is only a few feet below the track level, correct?

Nope. Hasn't shifted. In fact, they've stacked a number of segments ON TOP of the completed span.

I'm starting to wonder if they've completed the cap beam.

Thx.

"cold enough for you?"
Maybe they worried that the completed beam would blow away in the wind.

I don't remember the installation sequence (west - east??) shown in that video...

It should be noted that they are working at Manhattan West today, while there is not a soul at any of the Related projects. I know whose union I'd wanna be on.
