Eww. At least it'll provide some variety from all the blue glass around it. Looks so freaking serious compared to related's residentials.

Looks like an eighties design for a downtown office tower

I like it. Its conservative and I suspect this is the direction Brookfield is going with Manhattan West. It's not ugly and I like the black cladding. Will give add a different look in the the Yards.

The residential tower does look pretty tall and it may be. We all know its with the residential's these developers are going to make the Shekels and because of this, I would not be surprised if this tower will be taller at 1000' than the South tower which is supposed to be the tallest in MW that way the apartments with unimpeded views can sell at a premium.

Maybe Brookfield decides to make the North tower the tallest instead at 1200', but that that may take issue with 30 Hudson. I dunno.

What is clear is whenever they decide to release the final renderings of MW office towers, we may see something rather different than the boring twins.

There is one big plus about the residential tower, and that is the height. The design is nothing special, it totally falls behind the Trump World Tower imo. But based on the render, it for sure isn't more than 100 feet lower than Two Manhattan West.

Considering the article and image from SOM are exactly a year old, I would guess this is far from a finished product...

Nice. I wonder what the clad will be? Hopefully a nice black steel.

I'd say around 260m?
Nothing spectacular, but it will add a nice darker tone to the HY area as well as being more than just a glass facade

Good to see some variety!

I think it is too soon to judge this tower. The black cladding has potential to look really nice and contrast well with the surrounding towers that will go up.

Hudson Yards has interesting shapes, MW is just so conservative. They would want to stand out you'd think... taller or not it's still awfully dull and unadventurous.

Seems like this design is outdated. NYimby has got a rendering provided by Brookfield which shows a much shorter tower. Looks as bland as the previous one...just shorter

At least it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like the taller one.

Also, bit off-topic, but I'm not a fan of the recladding proposal for the wide mid-rise in the foreground, I like it the way it is. It's just so ugly it's beautiful again, kind of like Guy's Hospital in London.

How does he get his hands on these renders??

Bit of a let-down here. I kinda liked how strikingly different it was.

yea someone mentioned that yesterday. Funny how none of us geeks had never came across that rendering until now!! freakin a year later. lol

Since that rendering is a year old I expect to see something different or some major refinement. Admittedly I do like it cuz I think it gives diversity in the emerging Hudson Yards and I suspect, Brookfield will plan to do just that for the sake of giving separation between their project and related...

btw, is that the new rendering above?? I like the "older" black cladded tower better.

Edit: just read the link by Yimby. It is... its' a damn shame.

No views North and East for this residential tower. Maybe these will be mostly affordable housing units?? I dunno.

Off topic but the reclad looks significantly better with the metal hiding the concrete.

On topic, Brookfield sucks.

Awesome shots jacko! It's incredible that those end segments can support the weight of the entire span!
