Yeah, the higher resolution of these photos also gives you a better sense of the scale of this "bridge"

Thanks.

They're already tightening the cables for the second deck span. It took them 2 months to prepare the first, and two weeks for the second. Maybe this will go faster than expected!

I'm really stupid for asking this, but what are the bridges for?
And will the rails under these towers and under the hudson yards remain?

The questions you pose are intimately related. The bridges are meant to support the buildings over the rails, which will continue to operate.

the spans do not support the towers, they support the open space between buildings and some secondary structures.

the towers cores will all sit on terra firma. In some cases, columns will penetrate the platform down to terra firma.

At the hudson yards, builds will actually be supported by the platform.

Rails will DEFINITELY remain & operational

The rails will DEFINITELY remain and continue to be HEAVILY used.

The rails under Manhattan West are used by Amtrak, NJTransit & the LIRR.

The rails under Hudson Yards are the LIRR's West Side Yards and are used for mid-day storage and car cleaning. At some point in the Hudson Yards overbuild (next two years?) Tutor-Perini will restore the Maintenance of Equipment building. The MoE bldg (north adjacent to 10 Hudson Yards) had to be mostly disassembled so that T-P could construct Amtrak's Gateway tunnel box UNDER the LIRR's West Side Yards.

etc, etc.

Sounds like they've made much progress in learning how to build the spans.

Would have been interesting to see them lower the red Stonebridge Steel Erection crane into the pit.

I'm just making this up: maybe they used the red crane at street level to lower the 2nd red crane into the pit?

Thanks for clearing that up. I must have been mixing up the sites.

Sidewalk shed on the south side of 450. Now imagine this as an elevated walkway...

Interesting point.

It's also an impressive sidewalk shed.

This wide, truncated, pyramid has the potential to really "pull the room" together. "This building offers large unique space in close proximity to high growth developments and green spaces." - Brookfield MW web site.
http://www.manhattanwestnyc.com/cont...3rd-29597.html

Both the photo and the Brookfield render below are looking in the same ~easterly direction. The render does NOT show the current a-building state of the Hudson Yards development, though it does show a placeholder for the High Line's future development of the 10th Ave spur.:

For reference, the zoning doc snip below shows the position of the proposed passageway within 450 W 33rd St (the wide, truncated, pyramid aka the current AP HQ bldg). The passageway connect to a "10th Ave podium" at bottom left due to W30th dropping in elevation as travels east, as shown by the j-biz sidewalk shed photo above.

Now that you mention it, I'd have to agree that the rendering does make the office towers look like the now-gone twin towers.

BUT, we'll see the renovations to the wide, truncated pyramid & the platform years before we see any Manhattan West office towers.

And we'll see the rendering's view from the High Line blocked VERY thoroughly by 10 Hudson Yards.

Yea, I'm looking forward to what news corp is going to do. They will also be taking a few companies under their umbrella along like Time Warner. I'm seriously hoping they pick 2 WTC though.

Back to Brookfield, does anyone know what they plan to do with Dyer ave?

Will they build a platform over it to extend their plaza to 450 W 34th?

Newscorp doesn't deserve 2 WTC. They don't deserve a rat infested basement in Willets Point ... :-)

From solgoldberg last page it appears so. All they need is to make a deal to connect the podium on 10th to 360 10th ave and they are a part of the highline.

Are these Manhattan West properties going to be connected to the High Line directly at all? I saw in some early renders of the High Line Spur a pedestrian bridge diagonally across 10th Avenue connecting to the High Line ... is that what's happening at that 10th Avenue Podium?
