I just think it's in the wrong neighbourhood how it is now. It just doesn't fit the way it is right now when all the development around it is finished. It wouldn't be so bad somewhere else.

Very good reclad plans. I disagree that the corners should be filled in, I think leaving them open makes it unique and still preserves the original design better. I also like that they opened up the facade on the right side of the above picture. Best of all, no more roof clutter!

I have a feeling removing the roof clutter is wishful thinking on the part of whoever did the render.

I agree. filling in the corners would not make it better. But it should have a better front at street level (right side).
A massive closed wall isn't good enough.

Looking at the recladding, though still flawed the makeover makes it look MUCH better. Hopefully it will include the clutter on the roof...goodness that's hideous! However uninspired the original design, and subsequent facelift which really didn't make it look much better (the present building) as was stated the building has the large floorplates, high ceilings and capacity to build infrastructure for today's needs. Like others have said though it looks like it more is a base and needs a tower on top... though it does look now it will far better fit into the Manhattan West neighborhood.

That's the most important part, for sure. The aesthetics are what they are, but if this doesn't meet the street in a pleasing way, it's going to basically act as a barricade between Brookfield and the other Hudson Yards developments. No one will want to walk from one to the other. Maybe Brookfield doesn't care about that, but they should. There's a good chance many of their office workers will be living in the Yards.

I'm sure this has already been discussed, but I can't remember whether it was settled and it's definitely not clear from the render -- will street-level retail be included in the updated 450?

Yes the yahoo article says there is retail. And it isn't just this site that is blocked off, the Hudson yards have a retail barricade as well. 10th ave will be very unwelcoming. Almost like a DMZ between Related and Brookfield.

Looking at the building in the current situation it is probably the same, but it is a missed opportunity.

They might need a nuclear bomb to take that phukker out. But yeah, potential abounds.

Careful making such posts. People have started threads based on less.

Some roof clutter might be vestigial

Dunno.

I assume the AP (Associated Press) uses some of the satcom gear on the roof, but some of it might be leftovers from when this building also housed WNET studios.

WNET "Thirteen" is the NY, NY PBS television station.

The blue lifting pieces are in place and getting locked in with the crane. I'd say the second span is about to be moved into position!

How is this prep when we don't even know how big the buildings will be or what they'll look like?
